I'm in the planning stages of building my E25. I'm looking at the current close defence turret with its current armament of 20 or 30 mm weapon system. From the size of the turret, can a weapon of this calibre and a man fit in a turret of the modeled size?

I was thinking more along the lines of an STG-44 set off the center axis of the turret would be more inline with the space available.

Any thoughts on this?

Thank you.

The small turret at the commander's station was to mount a Mark 108 30mm autocannon. It was mainly for air defence.

Hey guys,
There seems to be some speculation as to whether the commander's station & turret weapon system was ever going to be installed in the production vehicle.

The syntax and translation is a bit off but it's interesting stuff.
Cheers

Was the Mk 108 fired remotely? It does not look like there is room for both the Mk108 and the commander.

Thank you.

I found this entry on the MK 108 30 mm Cannon. It does seem small enough. I'm guessing it is not suited for the AA role, but a s a close defence weapon it should do the trick.

Gary, speaking as a retired Infantry Sergeant, I don't think this setup would be effective as a close defence or anti personnel weapon. The depression of the cannon (or any weapon in this turret) is severely limited by the top edges of the hull. This would create a huge deadspace all around the vehicle. Using 30mm rounds on troops is a big waste, also.
The beauty of paper panzers is the fun you can have, as long as it's plausible. You want to put a StG 44 in that turret? Don't let anybody stop you!
You want to paint it in an interesting lozenge or splinter camouflage? Go for it!

I was thinking that as well. Big blind spots all around, but I was thinking that maybe some sort of HE 30 mm could be used for close in, but if the infantry get that close it is to late anyways

The turret is just not setup for anything above the vehicle, no AA sights.

I'll do some more thinking about this and see what I can come up with.

Thank you.

As far as I know, the AA turret wasn't supposed to be manned at all (remote-controlled.) I'd still be curious to know about the optical side of the contraption. I seriously doubt they would have included a CCTV system...
