Andy G. sent me two inquiries asking the following:

what ar the accordian like projections on these vehicles??

I've also seen louvers on the back corners of Bradleys and Abrams??

Answer? My guess would be they are some kind of baffle for when the vehicle is in the water, so that it doesn't get affected by wake. But I will let more experienced users say for sure.

What type of vehicle is this ??

Answer? I think it's an M88 of some type. A maintenance recovery vehicle I think.

Thanks for additional help on these.

The louvres on Bradleys and other coalition vehicles you are refering to are IFF (indentify friend or foe) panels. Those were disscussed some time ago here and on ML too... Just do a search with IFF as a keyword and voila... However, I don't think those things on the pic are IFF panels, rather some sort of additional armor. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

The vehicle on the second pic is M88A2 Hercules. You can see more of this vehicle here: Hercules

The "projections" on the AAVP7A1s on the first picture are add-on armour plating called EAAK (don't remember the meaning...) Most of the GW2 amtracs I've seen were fitted with EAAK armour but there were some exceptions (so I will build 2 kits instead of one )

The Hercules is the vehicle in the now famous Saddam Statue toppling.

Yes, it is the new M88A2 HERCULES. Note that since this is an acronym and not name (like Abrams or Bradley), it is normally all capitalized like the M9 ACE (Armored Combat Earthmover), M728 CEV (Combat Engineer Vehicle) or HET (Heavy Equipment Transporter).

BTW, HERCULES stands for Heavy Equipment Recovery Combat Utility Lift and Evacuation System. Someone got an extra dime in their pay for coming up with that one.
