Just thought I'd share my novice discoveries for today, although I'm probably the only one to have not figured this out so far
1. How did I ever live without CA debonder, and why did I wait so long to get some?
- Not only debonds parts, skin, etc, but can be used to "clean up" CA residue around small PE if you moisten a toothpick with the stuff.
- Be careful! It is "hot" and will attack plastic if used in excess.
2. I obtained 10 medical syringes (the kind diabetics use for insulin) for $3 today from my local drugstore (Target, from behind the counter at the pharmacy). The best thing I've come across for delivering the required one or two molecules of CA glue or accelerator to PE parts. Works best with thin CA. Be careful though, they're sharp!
Happy Modeling!

Seems FNG's always learn the hard way. Welcome to the wonderful world of modeling and Armorama. Hang out in here as often as possible and you'll get a wealth of info in a very short time.
I had been away from the modeling community for over 40 years and have just begun to catch on to the new technology and methods, so don't feel bad about a few hiccups along the way.
Again Welcome to the group.

Thats sounds like a great idea. Unfortunatly, when i went to Wall Mart to get the same thing, i didnt get so lucky. Apperently you need a perscription to get medical syringes. How did you obtain them? Also, where do you get CA de-bonder and CA accelorator?

For those looking to buy Hypodermic needles without a prescription, go to www.androusa.com. They sell for like $30-$35 for 100. But you do have to buy like 100. Which, if you use them for lots of stuff like I do, isnt too bad. You can use these for precisely mixing paint, casting resin, etc.

CA debonder is nothing more than nitromethane, which you can get from good hardware stores for about the same price you pay at the hobby shop. The difference is that you get a full gallon instead of 1 ounce...

thanks everyone, you have been a great help. One last question on the topic: these needles, are they for one time use? Wont the super glue cloog them up? i guess thats why you need to by 100!

Haven't you heard about your local government's needle exchange program? Armor addicts bring in their used needles and get fresh ones....

I just noticed this thread got resurrected! To answer Jon's question, I explained my intentions to the druggist at Target, and he had me sign a log (like they do for Pseudoephedrine) and I was on my way!
I find that if I store the syringes needle up, they won't clog for at least a few uses. My favorite is to put a dab of slow set CA on a PE part and use the syringe to drop some accelerator when the part is in place.

You can also get syringe needles from fishing tackle shops, they sell them to inject air into worms to make them float (at least they do in UK), it is certainly not the cheapest option but it does save you buying them by the 100 if pennies are tight.

Mission Models also sells tip extenders for CA glue. They fit the Zap-A- Gap bottles(BTW Michael's carries Zap-A-Gap).

well you know me, i love reserecting things! i told the guy at wal-mart my intentions as well, but he just went "humph" You know how that goes. He saif if they did give them out without perscriptions he would have a bunch of druggies lining up. I guess my age doesnt help me in the catogory, either. Allwell, as soon as i get some extra cash ill get myself some of those needles.

Each state sets it hypodermic needle rules. Massachusetts recently began selling them over the counter before that, it was by prescription only.
Whatever you do, don't confuse your CA for your insulin. You'll have a heck pof a time explaining that at the ER! (No, I haven't done that. Yet.)

it's nitroethane methinks, with nitromethane being used as fuel for drag cars. no matter. I buy Loctite Super Glue Remover in the pint bottles. (a TIP for mechanics - this stuff will dissolve the red Loctite stud and bearing mount locker fluid)
it seems as super glues became more part of mainstream life the mfgs finally decided to offfer release agents to dissolve it.
my own preference for general model building CA glues is the Zap brand. they offer regular, gap filling and slower setting glues, accelerators, and solvents. i use Loctite products for special purposes.
if you have access to a good industrial supply store there besides regular super glues there are a couple other useful types for model builders; metal bonding and a type that will fuse the rubber and vinyl i have repaired the buttons on remote entry car key fobs that tore loose and they work like new with no stiffness at the glue joint. again, these are all Loctite products i currently use and didn't know existed until i stopped by an industrial supply place looking for purple Loctite small fastener thread locker.

Hi,
I hate to say this, but ordinary acetone is an excellent CA glue debonder and solvent. You can get a can at any home improvement store that will last you for a veeery long time for close to nothing. Cheers, bjo

I was about to post what Bob just said - get some acetone. If you don't want a big can of it, go to Wal-Mart in the beauty section and get 100% acetone nail polish remover. Drop your metal needles and tools in it and it will dissolve the CA and make them squeaky clean for re-use.
DO NOT however use it to de-bond plastic parts, as it can also soften and melt Styrene and resin!!!

Two things that I have learned about CA glue. The big bottles are cheaper per ounce, but will be shot before youuse just a small portion. So the little tubes or bottles are more use able.
The second one is NEVER carry a tube of CA in your pants pocket. Mine leaked and I glued my paper money together and my pocket to my thigh.

Tractor Supply Company in the USA is a source for needles and syringes, stocked in various sizes. They carry them for giving injections to farm animals. No script needed. I'm sure any place that carries farm supplies would have them also.

THAT is pretty much the best advice I've read in a long time. Not to mention the funniest!
