Are there any countrys that have westernized there T-55's (Ex: western weapons, Mg's, Smoke candles, storage bins, IR lights, etc)
I would like to do a T-55 with the horseshoe or K-5 armor, but with western tech.

Iran have upgraded T-54/55s to T-72Z Safir-74's. This included replacing the main gun with a 105mm M68 rifled gun along with other mods.
There is a British upgrade project that amongst other things includes a 105mm L7 rifled main gun.
Egypt used German searchlights
Your best bet though would be an Israeli version
Re-designated the Ti-67, modifications included replacment of the main gun with a 105mm M68, co-axial MG replaced with 7.62mm Browning, cupola mounted AAMG replaced with a 12.7mm Browning, night vision equipment, antennae mounts on turret rear, infantry tank-telephone on hull rear, Browning 7.62mm machine gun at loader's station, exhaust outlet angled upwards and additional track stowage.
Trumpeter Ti-67 1/35 / Esci Ti-67 1/35
1/35 Trumpeter Israeli Ti-67 Tank
Cheers,
Linz

So far as I know, there are plenty of "proposed" upgrades for old T-55's, including new add-on armor to make them comparable to modern MBT's, but nothing has been produced/ordered in large numbers if any at all. I think on ly the Ti-67 was ever doen in any significant numbers, and so far as I know, they never saw combat.
Proposals I have seen involve rearming with 125mm, 120mm, or 105mm guns for the simple side, to having completely different powerpacks, sights, new armament, better suspension/tracksm, and add-on armor to help significantly defeat modern penetrators. But all of these are, again, only proposals so far as I have seen. Most upgrades that are taking place seem to center on communications and sighting/targeting systems.

Maki and Linz,
Do you have any links, photos, info on the Slovenian T55 and the Iranian converted Safir-74's?
I am looking for somethink to do with an old Esci T-55. I want to do a major upgrade or conversion out of this one just to use it up, something that I won't do on the Tamiya kit.

I have some pics of Slovenian T55; just sent it to couple of guys here... Mail me if you want them. BTW, AEF makes a Slovenian T55 conversion, check it out on AEF pages here: AEF design.
