I'm curoious if anyone has used these paints from Winsor & Newton? If so, how do they compare to regular oil paints? Would be nice if I could get away form the harsh thinning products.
Thanks

I have a few of them and frankly see no difference on how they mix or go on my figures. I have mixed the water mixable with the standard WN oils paints just fine.

Also, I use turpenoid to thin the WN oils. No smell. Period. Have you tried Turpenoid?

Are the water mixable oils good also for washings on AFVs? Turpenoid is not available here and I'm looking for a "low smell" option...

The Water mixable oil didn't really work out and differently than mineral spirits and regular oils. However, I really wasn't satisfied with either. I found that no matter what, I was gettinga lot of tide marks and the oil really wasn't stucking to the seams and lines as I wanted them to.

What I've resorted to now are goache paints instead. I find they're really easy to clean off before they've totally dried, even on matt surfaces. I've had much better results with them. No more messy marks

Richard, sorry for my ignorance, but what are these "goache paints"?

I'm not expert on paint, but from what I understand they are essentially opaque water colours. I've been using Winsor & Newton "Designers Gouache". They come in 14 ml tubes, but they're more expensive. About the price of a 37ml oil. Then again, 14ml will last you a long time. Still they only cost around $5 Canadian a tube.

Be careful on Goache labeled products. There are both water and turp mixable types. And, you cannot mix both types of thinners with them!!!

The turp or oil based Goache products dry even faster than acrylics! I learned this to my dismay and error after purchase and application.

Try winsornewton.com for more info. There is a great deal of info there and was very helpful to me to learn all the types of paint/brush/thinner products out there!!!
