For metal tracks I use the following procedure.
1 - Base coat of Model Master Acrylic gun metal
2 - Heavy dry brush of Model Master Acrylic rust to get into all the nooks and crannies
3 - Light dry brush of Model Master Acrylic steel to highlight
4 - Burnish the tracks with ground pencil lead (applied with the finger tip)
5 - Dusting of tracks with ground pastel chalks to finish
There are many different ways that a person can achieve great results on their tracks, this is just one of them. Hope it helps. :-)

If the tracks are already black or grey, I just shoot a thin "red brown" over the tracks and then drybrush them with "steel".. It works for me #:-)

I always start with a dark brown color , Then I make up a wash using ground up pastels in lighter fluid..I use all kinds of colors from rust to black ....I put this all over the tracks and when it dries it leaves a nice rusty look to the tracks..I then dry brush with humbrols polished steel and then buff it up a bit ...and to finish off a bit of pencil lead on the high points ...of course after that there is a light dusting with pastels but thats with the rest of the kits weathering ...hth

Hi Recon
Theres an article in the September 2002 issue of Fine Scale Modeler on this very subject if you can get a hold of that issue. If not I can scan it and email it to you.

My whole philosophy about model building is that you do what suits you.. It's only a Hobby until it becomes work #:-)
