The M-8, is it a armor piece? Or is it concidered as an artillery piece?

It is a self-propelled howitzer, much like the M109 series in use today. It was officially called the M-8 HMC or howitzer motor carriage. It does have the same armor protection as the M-5 Stuart light tank. It would have been crewed by artillerymen as opposed to tankers.

Whilst I assume you mean the M8 HMC, you may also mean the M8 Greyhound, in which case it would be armour (being an armoured car).

Not likely thinking of the Greyhound since he's asking whether or not it's an artillery piece or not. M8 HMC more aptly fits the description.
