I have just returned to plastic kit modelling after many years and need some advice. This is my first post.
I used to build 35th tanks(not to a great standard unlike many guys here). And when i was building Tamiya was the kit to get for quality of fit and detail.
But i see now that there are a loy of other makes which seem as good(read a few posts).
I would like to go for a 1/16 model and it seems like the only ones are Tamiya and Trumpeter. My local model shop said that trumpeter was the kits to go for BUT had none in stock at present. He also told me that the kits are only WWii russian.
Is there any particular kit in the range i should go for, being better than the others, quality detail etc. Also are these kits good as standard from box.
I have no preferance on model subject.I would normally choose late armour.
Any advice would be great on 1/16th kit choice.

http://www.trumpeter-china.com/war513/products/en_message.asp?id=16

prehaps we could start a campain on here for 1:16 T34's then we can compare hints, tips and photo referances?

another tempting kit if you wait a bit i belive trumpeter are releasing a king tiger with full interier!!

oh and just found a review, its not the kit i said above, its a T34/76, but it gives you an idea.

I have the 2 T34/76 kits. With the link above you will see for the money you get alot of detail and interior to work with and to add any detail modifications along the way. There are some static versions in 1/16th of the Tamiya Leo still available and once and awhile you can find the Tamiya Tiger I on ebay.

Also, in 1/15th there are the Bandai Tiger I, Panzer IV, Hummel and StuG IV floating around on Great Models website and ebay. So there are a few exceptions to choose from.

I have a Trumpeter 1/16th T34 1944 183 in my to build stash. It's quite comprehensive. I also have the 1/16 Tamyia Tiger 1 static kit in my stash. You can get the T34at www.Moduni.de at a cost of €80. They currently have 2 of the 4 1/16 Trumpeter kits in stock. There is a build blog of the 183 on another forum.

You're a lucky man to have the 1/16 Tamyia Tiger 1 static kit! Not only is it out of production, but it fetches a pretty high price whenever one is sold.

I was lucky enough to have a fellow tanker give me the mantlet from that kit, so at least now I can model an early version of the TI.

I think all 4 of the Trumpeter T34's are a must have, especially for the price. The King Tiger with it's interior might be the one to wait for to build if money is an object. It'll be a big seller once it's available. I know I want one.

I just had the big Tiger delivered last week. I managed to find one on e-bay at a very reasonable price. I'm going to give the Tiger the full Aber PE treatmentand I'll add metal track s. First I have a list of kits(6and a work in progress) to build to bring my modelling skills up to scratch. The T34 will be the final build before the Cat, it probably won't be this year though.
I'll be buying the Trumpeter Tiger 2 when it gets released, it looks like a sweet piece of kit.

I think all the Trumpeter T34s are pretty nice, it all depends which version appeals to you the most. Those are pics of my 1942 T34/76, just added a metal barrel, new headlight and a few mods here and there. I think the weakest point of those kits are the tracks.

Cheers,

Christophe
