Hi guys,
How do you create the straps that are often used on modern armor vehicles to secure the stowage.
I've seen lead foil being used but felt that the foil is kinda thick for the straps.
Thanks!
Brandon

I've used various materials including strips of paper, masking tape and photo-etch. The problem isn't so much the staps or slings, it's the buckles and fasteners. They are best rendered using the many aftermarket photo-etch sets produced by Eduard, Aber etc. or you can go DIY using PE mesh like in this article:

There are a host of other methods too so I'm sure others will chime in here soon with more ideas.

I've used R/C car pin striping tape or masking tape and Aber buckles. The tape is very strong so you don't have to worry about it ripping. Plus it is in uniform widths of 1/16 or 1/32 of an inch, I can never get the width to be perfectly uniform using lead foil or cutting paper.

Hi Brandon,
I use rolled lead wire, different diameters roll out to different thicknesses of straps, it's cheap and very user friendly.
Plus Model make it, 99p a packet, just flatten it out with a wallpaper roller.
Your straps are easy and at a consistent width/thickness. 0 .04mm is good for rifle straps, and work you way up to 1mm if you need to.

Wine bottle foil. It comes free with some wines, so you can't beat the price and you get a nice wine with it. It's very malleable, so if the thickness is too great, riolling an X-acto handle over it will essentially thin it out. It holds a fold and drapes very nicely.
