Im doing some research for a friend who doesnt have the internet, who's building a Gulf war M60 fitted with some kind of mine plow. He has described to me seeing a picture in an old Verlinden book on the Gulf war, of an M60A1 fitted with some kind of mine plow, it isnt the type seen fitted to the M1's, what he has described is an angled plow that kind of looks like a snow plow but with obviously spikes for churning up the ground, he also described some strut sticking out of the middle with the plows either side.
In the background of this picture of an M1A2 is a plow laying there(left side of pic, painted green), that he said kind of looked like this device seen on the M60 if this helps at all.
Sorry my description isnt great, sadly i couldnt see the picture as he's no longer got the book. But has anyone got any idea what I mean, or any details and pictures of such a device.
Any help would be really appreciated!

It was the mine rake. It attached to the dozer blade of M60A1 RISE/Passive or M728 CEVs and was an ad hoc mine plow.

In sand and against surface laid mines, yes.

I think the green, plow, blades in this picture are actually attached to the front /center of the mine plow assembly of the M1. They seem to be in a folded up position. I'll try to find a photo of this type.

My guess is that when the entire thing is lowered... The angled slopes are meant to shove obstacles or mines aside away frm the path of the tank...

That's similar, but not the same thing as the mine rake used in Desert Storm. That is a smaller version that is designed to push away the mines that will be missed by main portions of the mine plow. Originally, the mine plow just had the chain and dogbone to detonate tilt rod mines.
The mine rake used in Desert Storm was a larger one that looked like a huge snow plow made of tines. It attached directly to the standard M9 dozer blade on an M60 series tank or CEV (and probably would attach to an M48's dozer blade as well). The one I took a look at way back then (been 17 years now) was mounted on a CEV. As a former CEV crewman, the vehicle still catches my eye and the mine rake piqued my curiousity at the time.

Hi Rob,
go to : commons.wikimedia.org/wiki and look for m-728 mine rake.
you'll find some pictures.
as Sabot already told it was a rake attached to the dozer blade of a M-728 CEV or M-60a1 tank.
good luck !!

The photo that I have and can't find right now is very similar to HazZaRd's post image above.
I don't have information on the M60 mineplow.
