Hi guys,
I had this posted on HF the past few days hoping to get some advice from the more experienced figure painters .I've placed them here as they are tied to a dio and armor subject.
These figures are for a W.W.1 themed dio that i put aside last year and picked up on last week.
The running German is a figure from ICM whose head has been replaced by one from Warriors, and has PE added to the shoulder straps.
The subsequent British figures are from Model Cellar, heads replaced with some from Warriors.
Lastly, a dead German that i cut out of an old Verlinden dio.
I would like some opinions/ constructive comments to where i can improve on these figures.I have little or no painting experience and i have really only painted 10 or so figures in the past.
WIP photo's:
Running German:
British figures:
The three figures side by side:
The dead German in the front right hand corner:
And as he is now:
Cheers,
Shay

Looking pretty good. You don't see a lot of WWI dios. I like it.

Shay,
There are several tutorials on painting figures, this is one of the best IMHO.

Hope this helps out some.

Looking good!
Although it might be the angle of the shot, the first British soldier picture from the top down, the guy on the left appears to have a very long neck. I assume these are Hornet heads or the like adapted to the bodies? (edit: Warrior heads! it helps to read closely before responding)
If it's not the angle of the photo it probably wouldn't be too hard to shorten the neck a hair.
Great expressive faces.
The German guy looks a lot like Corporal Hitler.
Been following this dio for a while and really like what you are doing.
WWI doesn't get nearly enough attention in the diorama world. Kudos.
Cheers,
Charles

Gday mate
I, like Charles (I inserted the comma, as it read "I like Charles". I mean, I do like Charles, but this is perhaps a little ambiguous to lead off a thread reply:-X ) have followed this for a while and am glad to see how this is shaping up. How difficult was the dead Jerry to paint in situ?
I can't help so much with uniform colours that you are painting, but I trust that you have done sufficient research in this dept.
Sticky slimy mud will definitely need to be added to the uniforms, in places that are likely to be affected, such as on the puttees up the backs of the legs, on the derrieres etc etc. I'm sure you are all over this already though
The Brits do have a touch of 'Carstairs and Fairfax' though
Good stuff
Brad

Hi guys,
@Jim: I remember seeing one of Emhars tanks a few years ago when i started this hobby, and i thought..geez, that would be perfect for a dio!
@Steve.Thanks for your comments here, and over at HF, your link is very much appreciated.
@Charles.Long time between drinks mate!Your sci fi themed dio was a great inspiration to me while starting this project.About the head..it looks slightly elongated but only in the photo...the thought of more plastic surgery on these guys would send my blood pressure through the roof !BTW...i acquired the same Andrea figure which i will start on soon.
@Brad.I got a lot of stick from a mate of mine about the choice of heads...after seeing your post somehow i started thinking about "It Ain't Half Hot Mum" !I personally think the older chap with the long mo' kind of looks like Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York(:-|
I will be doing some practise runs with mud/ washes and pigments on some old models/figures and groundwork before i go the whole hog...
@Mike C. Good to see you are still about. The figures and dio have been left aside for far too long and it was about time i got my arse into gear with it!
No photo update as such, but i have been painting the rifles/ grenades/ webbing and adding some PE to the German figures.
My first Iron Cross that was ready for placement on the German figure has been lost to the carpet gremlin..
Cheers,
Shay

Definitely a long time Shay! Here's to you Isn't the Andrea figure lovely? Albeit a bit pricey for a 1:32 scale figure, it's still a great pose and sculpt. Keep us posted on further progress

Charles

Very beautiful figures!
If I can get the right figures, I have a plan to do a WW1 diorama myself. Think Monty Python's "Ypres 1914" sketch...
