Edit: BOTTOM OF THE THREAD FOR AN UPDATE!!
Its been a while since I worked in this project (left it at home when I went to uni) so i decided to try and get it finished whilst I have the easter hols off. Heres a link to the older progress pics:
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/104592&page=1
Anyway, this is it ready for a coat of primer. Its an M1097A2, as a cargo/troop carrier
fitted with hardox sheets, its based on a pic on page 7 of Tankograds Iraq guntrucks book. The panels arent glued in place, so they do look a little wonky.

Great to see you're actually getting some modelling in, excellent, I'll keep an eye on this for certain, nice resin MG.
It must be nice to some time to model.
Best wishes

Rob, where'd you end up finding the 'roll bar' for the cab (I put it in quotes because trust me there is absolutely no support in it at all)? I'd definitely like to find one. I also like the M60 being used, this must be an National Guard vehicle.
Russell, have you tried the Academy IED Humvee, I'm curious to see if its any better than the original Academy humvee. I really wasn't impressed by the original. Tamiya is much better, I just wish someone would come out with a new humvee set.
Rob, I did something similar to this a few years ago. I'd show you the links to the build but I realized I'd deleted all the pictures! Here are the two I have remaining. If you need any info let me know. Good to see you back on the modelling table.

The MG is not an M-60. M246 or M240B.

The HMMWV in the original post was toting around what looks to be a M249 SAW...And the HMMWV above is carrying a MK-19 40mm automatic Grenade launcher. I've never seen a MK-19 put onto M998 Highback HMMWV before..they usually carry if the back is broken down a M249 or a M240G. Since the Marines dont use M-60s anymore you would never see one with a Marine unit. The MK-19 if mounted on a HMMWV would usually be mounted on a hard back HMMWV since it would most likely be part of some CAT team or security veh and the sec veh is strecthing it and they also get mounted on a MTVR (7ton Truck).
Some model companies may put certain weapons in the kit but it doesnt always mean they should be put on the vehicle. And someone who knows about the vehicles could pinpoint inaccuracies a mile away. I've been around all types of vehicles (LAVs, HMMWVs, AAVs, M1A1,M1A2s etc...)during my 15 years in the Marines and if anybody has questions please ask..I would be more then happy to offer some advice and back it up with pictures. Both models look great though...

The back plate. I think that it doesnt belong there. And as far as I know they have 40mm's to on such hummers.'

Thanks for the positive words guys! Just got some primer on it, so hopefully start painting it soon.
Jeff-Thats an M240B, not an M60 and the 'roll bar' (yer doesnt look much use!) is from Verlindens old M998 conversion, which I used for this build-better way to go than using the Academy Humvee! There guntruck is just the old Humvee with some new armor plates, it looks as though its based on the vehicles that were manufactured in Germany for the 1ID(see page 49 of tankograds gunruck book) not sure if this version is very common either, the book says only 48 were produced. I opted for creating the troop carrier version out of the Tamiya kit with the Verlinden conversion as Tamiyas kit if far superior to Academy's. The Verlinden conversion is sadly now OOP, but its a nice little kit and looks great on the Tamiya Kit.
Heres a review of the Academy kit-

Like I mentioned, I got mine through Hannants. Excellent service unusual selection for some hard to get things. I also bought the Eduard PE for the Tamiya HMMWV M 997 ambulance that I couldn't find anywhere else.
I haven't been able to find any other source in Canada or the US, let me know if you do.

Totally forgot about that conversion Bill, luckily enough I live just down the road from the Hannants mail order warehouse, went there the other day and picked some stuff up. Have to get a couple of these.

Oops, I was tired when I made the post and in my quick glance, I thought it was an M60 - its a 240B. And for clarification, the humvee I made was a incorporation for a number of different things based on numerous photos of different humvees. I've learned over the years that you can never say never when it comes to humvees and really...I just wanted to make a humvee with an Mk-19.
Rob and Bill thanks for the input on the different conversions. I will have to look into Hannant.
Russell, my guess is no. Most stuff is made for Tamiya's humvee which is slightly larger than the Academy one, so a little conversion would probably be necessary.

Jeff-Dang, over here Tamiya's M1025 kit costs ard $45 USD! Academy is of course the "cheaper" choice, but for detailing, Tamiya beats em all hands down.
Ok and as you all know, i'm trying to replicate that Romanian Humvee (i'm assuming it's romanian ) and it seems that the rucksacks are attached to the back area of the Humvee, and i'm not too sure whether it has an open back or closed up one. This is getting difficult! That's where the fun comes in.

Howdy guys! Resurrecting an old one here, but thought id update you all on my Humvee build. Its been sat on the shelf for a while collecting dust so a few weeks back I decided to have a crack at it again. I had actually sprayed the basic colors a while back and this time did some work on the Hardox panels.
All my painting is based exactly on the picture of this Humvee from Tankograds book. The markings in the Hardox where hand painted-nightmare!!!! Everything looks a bit stark at the moment, it all need toning down with the airbrush. Enjoy the pics...

Cheers Bill, pleased you like it! Yer the lettering came ok pretty good, i basically just painted tiny white dots to make up the letters, very tedious but the effect looks good.

thats some !@#$%^&*() work!!!! it looks great rob , you really are skilled with what i can see with the lettering. i posted a while back on a scratch built HMMWV with ASK for a WIP but it looks no where as good as yours does. And the academy Kit is quite good but it cou0ld need some improvement here and there.
