This is based off my Grandpa During WW2 He was A Infantryman Who Went From omaha To BOB to Who knows where During WW2 He was with Pattons Tanks and actually met Patton a few times. During WW2 My Grandpa Won a few medals the Medal of Honor,I Think the Purple Heart and a few others I Cant remember, Bad Thing is when he was at the camp to head home someone stole them :.
Theres 2 Storys one which im basing my Diorama off Im Going to Tell about my Grandfather. The First is When a Officer was Telling him To Direct all the Vehicles off the Road (They were following patton) And to Start camp. Well Turns out patton didnt want to stop and Start camp he chewed out my Grandfather :
Now heres the better story which my Dio will be based off.
Now One Day while the Group was moving Following patton With Tanks A Group of German Planes Flew over and Attacked the Collum Well Guess what Not One Tank or Vehicle was Lost and all the Planes were shot down by the Machine guns. Thats the Story Which my Dio will be based off. Heres a picture Showing how it will be setup
It Will be of a Shot Down BF109 That Skidded to a stop Beside the Road My grandpa Will be standing beeside it Looking at it While The Tanks are Stopped with the HAtches opened and Looking at it Also and a Jeep infront of the tank. I Have Every Model Needed for the Dio also The 109 will be a BF109 From Hasegawa in 1/32 Scale the Tank a Tamiya M4A3 JUMBO Sherman 1/35 and the Jeep a Tamiya 1/35 Willys Jeep.
NOw as for the Figure im not sure yet : IM going to be contacting my Grandfather soon for Info As to Which group he was in where he was etc. I Hope you all like my Idea and my Diorama which will Hopefully when its done Dedicated to My grandfather.

This is what we are about here... recreating history and telling stories. Everything I do in modelling has a story or a point behind it, even if it is just in my mind. Having a real story to tell is even better. I hope your grandfather likes the diorama.

Great idea and will make for a cool dio. If I were to throw in my 2cents worth it would be to have the road running around/closer to the plane. (from back to front). This is going to be huge when finished. I would make your shapes more 1:1 scale and try to compact it as much as possible. If it ends up with lots of empty space, it might take away from the effect.
If you keep it the way it is, the tank will hide the plane from the front view.
Somebody recently was talking about a similer idea and most people were of the opinion 1/72 was the best scale to show this correctly. But as you have the vehicles...... the more compact they are...... the more impact it will have!

Nice idea! Wish that good idea be also a good diorama. Well, you may take up lot of time to do that but atleast in the end you showed yourself you're something.
About that Medal of Honor, wow, that's something. That's the highest honor awarded to Allied soldiers right? Too bad their stolen as you have said.
Good thing he survived the Omaha beach landing. That was a "killing field". Many died but the Allies won that war.
Keep us updated with your work!

What you might want to do is pick up some cheap 1/72 scale kits, and do a real quick build, not even painting and move them around to get a feel for what look balanced, because that's going to be a challenge. The plane has to be towards the front of your dio otherwise you'll only be looking at the backs of your figures. Ditto on having the road on a diagonal to make the scene more visually interesting.
