I cant really take the credit for this idea, but I thought it would look good. My father thought a super con on the ramp with all of the ground crew and equipment from that era around it. Maybe even having figures in peroid clothing would give a real image of the golden age of flight. Does any body have any knowldge of any manufacturer of that type of era. I ve seen verlindens 48th scale tarmac and plan to use that for a base. Any Ideas, revisions, or tips are welcome. Thanks!

If you want a good reference that would show stuff from that particular time look into Historie and Collections book "Constellation" ISBN 2-915239-62-2
There are several pages showing ground support equipment of all types and personnel servicing the planes. Should be able to grab some ideas from this. The Connie is my all time favorite commercial a/c, more so when it was in its EC-121 Warning Star colors. This is an excellent book for references on the Connie. Hope this helps. "Q"

Wes,

Try Woodland Scenic or Plastruct for the figures and even the vehicles. Both have 1/48th scale( which is O gauge) and lots of choices. These are both geared more for railroad hobbyist but their the best for none military figures.

Something like this.....

Going Home

You 'll have to do a bit of painting conversion for figures. I would research some Rail Road figures for civilians.

Hi Wes
Are you looking for 1/72 scale postwar airline stuff ? If so, Preiser has released several figure sets that may interest you :
Ground crew set #72406:

Civilian pilots, stewards and airline personnel set #72528 :

Airport employees #72411 :

Airport employees #72412 :

Finding civilian maintenance vehicles may be harder (apart from a 1/72th scale diecast VW van - or a Beetle - maybe ...)

Which scale will the actual model be? I know the Constellation was used in the Berlin Airlift, but probably not the Super Constellation. Too bad, because with the planes lined up and all the trucks offloading the cargo, it'd be a cool dio. I've wanted to do one since visiting tempelhof, but never gotten around to it.

IIRC, the Super Constellation (as depicted by Heller's 1/72th scale kit #80391) appeared in 1950...

If you plan on doing it in 1/48 there is no injection molded kit of the connie in that scale that I'm aware of. Plenty of 1/72 offerings though. There is a Vac kit in 1/48 but it is pricey and provides just the basic shapes not to mention trying to find one. This would be a cool project, would be interested to see it once you get going on it. It is OO - HO

OO I think is 1/72 HO 1/76, or possibly vis-versa!

There is not much between them anyhow in my opinion.

I stand corrected

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/00_gauge is 1/76

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HO_scale is 1/87 and therefor a good bit smaller.

Therefor nearest railroad scale to 1/72 is 00

All the best

Wes,

1/72 scale is exactly dead center between HO and O gauge. O being larger and HO being smaller. Thus the choice is yours to use smaller figures to make the connie look as it was the center piece or the action of the figures is the central theme. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Edit: OO gauge is 1/76th so there is a proximity to the scale of the connie. BUT, OO gauge is predominantly used in the UK. I'm not sure if there is a big market here in the US for it.
