Hello,
Firstly, I'm tempted in purchasing Tasca's m4a1 mid-production sherman. However, I'm disappointed with the decal selections in terms of unit markings.
I was wondering if this particular sherman variant was deployed on the D-day landings in Normandy or served with a particular Allied unit in France. I'm not too interested in creating a Sherman from the Italian or North African campaign.
To all Sherman experts, If this sherman did serve in France can someone please hint where I could possibly purchase decal markings for which units, or can someone please hint which Sherman variant did serve on the D-day landings or in France.
Thanks a bunch.

Hi Alexander,
The M4A1 Sherman Mk II was in NWE from D day to the end. They were depolyed mainly with 4th Armoured Brigade, although 8th Armoured Brigade may have had some Mk II DD's, 33rd Armoured Brigade had a wide variety of Mk Is and possibly Mk II's.
I would suggest a visit to IMW site and decide on a vehicle and unit and go from there.
Hoep this helps.

All American tanks in the early days of Overlord were either M4s or M4A1s (this was to ease logistics.) You can buy a sheet of markings from Archer and with a little research, make just about any American Sherman in the Invasion.

Alexander, the Tasca kit is perfect for a D-Day M4A1.
Do you want to do a US, Brit, or Canadian tank?
I've done two US D-Day M4's because I love the markings. You can get the stars, reg numbers, bumper codes, and D-Day shipping stencils from Archer Fine Transfershttp://www.archertransfers.com/. I highly recommend them. They are dry transfers and a joy to work with.
You can get the invasion numbering, the big yellow letter/numbers, from Woodland Scenics' Model Graphics. These are available at any hobby shop and are also dry transfers.
Archer also does all the markings to do British and Canadian tanks, and Commonwealth D-Day shipping stencils.
This will allow you to pick your favorite D-Day tank and have all you need to perfectly replicate it.

Gday Alexander
In addition to Archer, have a look at Bison decals, who have at least 2 sets for D-Day shermans, both M4 and M4A1, and also some Commonwealth from memory.
As mentioned, the new release Tasca kit is perfect, as it represents the features that were added in England before the invasion.
Any further info, don't be afraid to ask!
Cheers
Brad

Hey all
Thanks for the replies, at the moment I have a really bad cold, so bear with me as I may not make so much sense grammatically.
I'm interested in doing either an American, British or Canadian D-day sherman tank. I believe once I do further research I'll choose one. As for now, I checked out Archers, but couldn't make much sense in terms of unit markings for the D-day or NWE units.
If someone could kindly help sort out which markings belonged to which Allied unit in terms of which Archers sets I should purchase, I'd be very grateful.
Again, thanks a lot for the responses.

for an American tank you would need the "bumper codes" in white, D-Day shipping stencils, and registration numbers (based upon the individual vehicle you choose to model. Depending on what point in the campaign, you can skip the shipping stencils, the later in the campaign the less likely you were to see them. The bumber codes contain instructions on how to decipher the code, that code protrayed the 'unit" markings for US Army vehicles.

Just to amplify, once you know which unit you want for an American tank, you can recreate the bumper code, and teh archer bumper codes give you everything you need to do that. Another source for Canadian vehicles by the way is:
