Hi guys,
I'm after any reference photos anyone has regarding the French Hotchkiss tank as captured by the Germans, with the turret removed and used as a munitions/artillery tractor.
I have seen two designations for what I presume is essentially the same type of vehicle:
Munitions-Schlepper 38H 735(f)
Artillerie Schlepper 38H (f)
While some limited info can be found through the internet, there are no reference pictures and no detailled info.
In particular i'm interested in:
- whether a box was installed in place of the turret like on the Pz I and IV versions
- whether it had a lifting crane
- any other German mods such as pioneer tools, notek light etc.
- and of course any known paint and marking schemes
- oh yeah, and deployment, although I am pretty sure this would largely be in France.
Thanks fellas, I really appreciate any info on this rare beast!
James

Panzer Tracts 19-1 Beute-Panzerkampfagen does NOT have anything on the vehicle. It only covers captured tanks used in their original role (with the addition of flamethrower for the Char B). It's possible that it is covered in Panzer Tracts 17 Armored Supply/Ammunition Carriers but there is no mention of it in the description of the book on the Panzer Tracts website.
There is only brief mention of the Hotchkiss used as miscellaneous roles in Track Story #6 Hotchkiss H35/39. There is just one sentence saying that the hulls without turrets were used as prime movers, amoo/supply carriers, and training tanks. There are two pictures of such vehicles but no mention of which type they are. None have an armored box in place of the turret. I don't see a crane.

Thats great info thanks Gary!
After looking at Pz I and III munitions tractors they usually have a hatch over the turret and I presume this would be the same case here. Is there any possibility of scanning the pics for me? i'd really appreciate it as they would be a huge asset to my build.
Cheers,
James

Hi James,I have been looking for pics of the vehicles you mention and have found zilch.I did stumble across a good pic of an 35R towing a 210mm artillery piece on the Axis History Forum under "Captured and converted French equipments in axis service".I am very keen to find pics of any captured vehicles used by the Wehrmacht especially French, any variants, any vehicle any front.I am desperate to find any pics or info on the schulenpanzer version of the Renault Char B1 which had its turret removed to train tank drivers.I started out with the Tamiya 1/35 Bi and have completed the German version, the B2 with the 105 howitzer and the flammenpanzer with the aid of detail conversion kits and am now hooked on this facsinating topic of German armour. Please reply if you have any news.
Thanks mate,Dave

It may interest you, even if some of the included pics (from the Axishistory forum) are not new to you
Talking about "Fahrschulepanzern" based on French tanks, here's one based on a Somua S-35
