Hello,

Could anyone please comment on the quality of the Dragon’s StuG III Ausf. C/D kit (#6009)?

I’m looking for options to build D variant of StuG Abt. 177 in Russia.

Are there any other available kits in 1/35 or 1/48? I’ve noticed newer Tamiya’s version B (1/35), but I would rather avoid any conversion.

Thanks

It builds up decent enough but don't expect it to be on the same molding and detail standard as the more recent Smart Kits, but it's still a good kit regardless. So far as I know they are the only ones on the market with a C/D.

Where to start.

Well first off I would dump the drive train and replace it with either parts from a Tamiya Pz III based kit or the same from DML. I would replace the tracks. The detail on the rear engine deck is soft so make sure you get some good reference so you can add some bolt heads etc. I would also change the kits barrel and maybe even the recuperator housing. The tools also are very poor but can again be replaced with parts from the newer DML or Tamiya kits.

Thanks, John.
It was very helpful. I'm going to use that tips.

Dragon is releasing a new-tool Smart Kit version of the very similar Ausf. E this year, if you can wait a few months. If you choose to do the old kit, replace the tools with Tamiya or Cyber Hobby items, which offer better detail.

Royal Models make an excellent P/E and resin jack, clamps, and block set. The kit jack really needs replacing.
