Hi everyone and thanks for the great response to the .50 !!
I'm no jeweller or clocksmith thats for sure... the Lionroar set for the .50cal rounds is a bit finicky but really they arent that big a deal and there are guys out there who have done the individual rounds much better than me !! The thing to remember is that you don't need to make as many of them as you think... the bottom row of the ammo is the plastic stuff from Tasca painted with Mr. Hobby buffable metals brass, copper and a bit of tamiya black for the clips.
The trick I pulled here was NOT painting the brass round casings, but just painting the copper rounds and the colour coded heads. The real brass is just that, real brass, so the effect works better than any metal paint. The rest of the gun was painted with acrylic and a little drybrush...simple!
I have been trying to review the set for a while, but the other reviewers said that the best way to review a set which is out of scale (as this one is) would be to see how much work is involved in making it useable so I have done just that...look out for the review at some point.
again, thanks for the response !! you've made a fiddly job worthwhile
thanks for taking time to look
cheers

Very, VERY nice work on the interior of the turret!
I showed my wife these pics this morning and she thought it was a much larger scale, until I pointed out to one of my built kits what scale it was.
I know you must have great patience to do such work, so keep it up and post more when you can!

Beautiful .50 cal. Don't forget the handles on the engine access door on the rear deck.
Excellent detail work (would drive me over the edge ).

I'd just like to add to every-ones comment on the gun and say it's amazing.
The rest of the tank looks out-standing in all . Cannot wait to see it painted.

Wohoho nice. Lookng great. Those the cannon and mantlet really need replacing? What colours did you use. I always have problems with my shades of greeen and you seem to have the perfect OD mix.

well not necessarily given the timeframe. I am depicting a tank in normandy, from the 747th TB. If you pick another unit you could use the Tasca early pretty much as it is. The M34 gun mantlet from the kit was not on the 747th tanks I'd seen in reference photos, so I replaced it with the M34A1 from Formations.
The Tasca Mid is out now which comes kitted up with it so it can be done much easier now thanks Tasca
For paint, the OD, I used the Lifecolour US Olive Drab set - a dream to use I must say and they airbrushed beautifully. For undercoat I used Valejo colour US Olive Drab.
I used the UA220 all over, then on the raised area I used UA223 faded 1. At this point it will be very light and a bit too green, so I gave it a light coating of UA219 Olive Drab which pulls it all down. In the first picture it's also got a coat of Future for the decals which darkens it down and hardens up the look I think.

hi guys
just a quick update
here's how she's looking now... the red tablecloth really kills the colour on this shot though, so THIS shot is a better representation of the actual model's colours...
also I'd like to show how the periscopes look now the masking tape is off...
thanks for looking guys and all your comments along the way
keep those OD's coming. a few shermans about these days - which is great!
cheers

I must say Jon (and I will!) that this has turned out bonzer mate!
The dust and dirt looks good in my book...
Love the hatch details, and the hard work has definitely paid off.
What did you use for the glass colour?
Brad

hey Brad thanks mate
it's not a colour its just the transparent parts masked off. I guess the OD outside and the dark inside colour the lenses, but when looking in real life there is a real depth there.
just a quick update shot

had a bit of a break from this one working on other stuff
but now it's time to prepare it for a dio for a show in Nov, when I'm hoping to enter it in the dio category...
bit of work here on pioneer tools, added the coax MG and headlights, added the .50 on a proper mount etc...
cheers
