I am building another 1/35 Tamiya M-26. Love that kit. I want to show dirt in the tire grooves. I can appreciate that I fist paint the entire tire in the ground color I want, but where to from there? How do you take the excess off a rubber tire? How long do you let the base color dry before to strip away the excess?
thanks

Sir,
I brush paint the tire in about 1/4 sections, and wipe the excess off almost immediately with a paper towel and have had what I consider favorable results, especially if you airbrush a layer of "dust" on later to tie in all the weathering.

Dj,
I just had great results using pigments... Mixed the pigs with some thinner, I used Turpinoid, brushed the resulting "mud" on the tires of the LAV-R and then once the pigments were dry, used a toothbrush to clean up the tires. leaving th etreads with pigment as well as leaving smuges on the sidewalls. The effect is probably over done foe the vehicle as I wanted to depict the LAV-R in the motorpool...
Good luck

John-- thanks. Regarding the toothbrush, I assume you put the turpenoid on it and move across the tread marks. Is that correct?
thanks again

DJ,
It was a dry toothbrush and it knocked the dried pigments off pretty well. I hit the pigment from several differant directions it it looks the part on the LAV tires. Give it a try, an dyou can always clean it off with whatever you used as a binding agent (water, thinner, alcohol...)
