Does anyone know what color a Sherman's steel looked like before being painted?

Get to any metal work shop and look around. Processed but unpainted metal is covered by various oxides. It ranges all sorts of greys & browns & blues & whites. Adam Wilder did an excellent article about an unpainted T-34/76 called "Naked Desperation" in AFV Modeller Magazine.
