Hello you all MAZ fans !
I got some q's for you...
I wanna buy the 1/35 MAZ 537 trumpeter kit. I got a T-80UD and a BMP1.
I am looking for diorama ideas. Is any dio with the MAZ carrying one of'em possible ?
Any pic o such a configuration ?
Is the MAZ 537 used in Chechnya ? with the T80-UD ?
I read that Trumpeter is gonna issue another type (late type) of the MAZ, do I have to wait for it to have it carry the T-80 ?
Can you pls gimme some infos of where and/or when the BMP1 could rest on the ChmZap trailer ?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Richard

Very few T-80UD (or T-80U for that matter) left in Russian Red Army service. T-80UD may indeed be gone by now, replaced by T-90S. Most T-80UD were cut up for scrap in 1995 or so. And NO T-80UD in Chechnya EVER.
BMP-1 is still in service with the Red Army, and they are in Chechnya.
MAZ-537 mid production is still in service with the Red Army, so yes, you could have one in Chechnya hauling a T-72/90 or T-80B or BMP-1/2.

Stop teasing us with those kits, Steve
First, there are no MAZ tank transporters used in Chechnya. Second, overwhelming majority of armor employed in the region are T-62s, PT-76 and such; they simply do not require such a beast to move them. You can use early model to haul T-80UD because it is still in service, but like Jacques said there were no T-80U or UD in Chechnya ever.

George, are you sure that there are no MAZ used in, or more appropriately, near Chechnya? I have seen photos, and I do not have them handy, of them hauling obviously mauled tanks, lik ethe T-80BV's of the 1st war, and some really beat up T-72/90's. Maybe this is more outside the operations area?
I would agree that they are not being used in HOSTILE areas, say to do recovery under fire.

Nice teasin' pic steve !
Thanks for your help George.
I did not mention I got a T62 that's painted to depict an ANA (afghan nat'l army) tank, do you know whether the MAZ537 ever got its tires there ?
I read some former warsaw pact countries (was it Romania or Poland, or else) brought ancient tank parts to the ANA...
Any MAZ537 known in Afghanistan nowadays ?
Thanks,
Richard

Yes, the MAZ-537 is in use in Afghanistan. Google it and pictures will appear.

I have seen a whole series of photos of the MAZ hauling the AN-2, but for the life of me I cannot find the source right now. Sheesh.
Suffice it to say, so long as the "load" would not exceed the haul weight of the tractor/trailer, there is no reason you could not haul downed helicopters, or even aircraft, heck it could haul small ships around, ala the photos of M26's hauling LST's in WWII. It would only require finding out the max haul rate of the full MAZ-trailer setup and also the max weight of the cargo.
Though hauling that battered AN-2 would look darned sweet...or a HIND/HIP/HOUND heli...
