Ok here I am again #:-)

Thanks to geoff I have a lot of reference pictures of this German M18 15 Howitzer, but on the pictures there is something that I can not identify.

When you look at this front picture then you see on the left panel a circular tube, any idea what this is?

I am not 100% sure but I'll put in my 2 cents worth...

I'll lay odds that since this is a towed arty peice that maybe that is what is left of a tail / running light for when it was moved in convoys at night to keep anyone following from running into it.

in the close up pic there is what appears to be a wire inside it.

anyways that is my guess... but i'll look in some of my references for anything simular.

Hmmm, tham maybe a good guess

I found this picture and you can see a wire going to the location of that tube.

Problem is that I don't know how common this whas? I have one B/W picture in a book of this gun and it dos not seem to have it

I havn't yet found anything else exactly like this yet. although I've found many Towed peices that had tail / convoy running lights that were mounted on the lower frames.

If it is a light and after seeing the wire on the inside, which looks like it runs along side of the frame under the gun and towards the towing hitch, think we are on the right track it could have been added on later. because the later the war went on the more the germans had to move their stuff only at night.
