Hello, I'm having a hard time finding the right colours for US troops in the ETO.

Some instructions show all clothes in dark green, but that seems a bit simple. I'm far from a figure expert, I only use them to accompany my armour and make them look better.

So what would be the right colour for:

Helmet: Olive drab?
Shirt: Dark Green?
trousers: Some shade of brown? Flat brown?
Vest: Dark Green?
Belt: Buff?
Suspenders: Buff?
Boots: Brown?
Grenades: Olive drab?
Shovel: Olive Drab?
Pistol cover: Olive drab?

Did I forget something?

thanks for the info!

Most .45 automatic holsters were brown leather but I have seen some in WWII that were black.
I mix dark yellow or desert yellow with buff for GI jackets and such. As clothing weathers in time, faded OD would be pretty common on most GIs.
On helmets, don't forget the wear on the metal lip.

Dave,

Here are some links to a company that makes accurate reproductions of U.S. WWII uniforms and gear. I hope this helps.

Osprey do a good series on The US Army in WW2 which would answer all your questions.

As an online source I would recommend www.atthefront.com

and modelling the US army in WW2

You might be able to find the info you're looking for on Tim Streeter's web site, Modelling the U.S. Army in World War II. I refer to it when I have a question for a project dealing with the US Army, it has a section devoted just to painting US figures. I think you'll find it helpful if you haven't been there before.

Europa Militaria has published numerous large-format paperback books of color photographs of live models wearing period military uniforms. These answer a multitude of questions that aren't clearly revealed in color drawings alone, and are well worth adding to your library.

I'm looking into this dave, as i have been wondering the same thing. I just tested 13 colors on paper to see what the best matches are. Ill let you know the results as soon as the paint dries (Note- all paints tested were acrylics)
