My Project '46 TigerIID, an evolution of the standard late war TigerIIB, the first of 4 Tigers for my '46 wargaming unit. Converted from a 1/72nd Dragon Production Turret kit., changes include added Sterioscopic range finder, IR night fighting equipment (by Milicast), Flammvernichter Flame damping exhausts (from a Dragon Panther F kit) and metal tow cable (from EurekaXXL).

Will add a commander at some stage, probably when the other Tigers get finished.

cheers

Another excellent small scale build Brent!

One thing though, if this is truly a '46 model Ausf. B then it should have all of the 'late' features that popped up on KT's at the end of the war. eg. Modified rear hatch with cropped corners, 6 track hangers per turret side etc.
Spit, who commented above currently has a thread of a 1/35 late KT he's building with all of these mods on, though I understand you won't want to get too detailled for wargamming purposes!

Lovely job all the same,

James

Hi Guys,

Thnx for the comments. James you're right of course but I've got a few vehicles planned and the time I get to model for myself is pretty limited. Thnx also for the heads up on Spit's build, I've looked it for reference!!!

And a quick question why 6 track hangers? Did they go to a one link track or something? I havent got much info on the Tiger2 at all ...........

Anyway heres a quick look at my vehicle in progress so far ...... pretty much banged em up with what I had to hand but i've got a better handle on what units I want now and are purchasing kits to suit as I can.

cheers
Brent

Very interesting, looks like you've had some fun kit-bashing some 1946 AFV's together there, that KT with zimmerit is a real relic of the past by this stage though!

You are correct, the six track hangers were used due to a later design of king tiger track that was made up of a single link rather than 2. Therefore there was room for another track holder. The single link track also meant a new drive sprocket with more teeth (I dont remember the numbers), and so that would all need to be changed too.

As you say, no need to worry for your purposes!

Keep up the good work,

James

I have to keep reminding myself that the models are 1/72nd! I particularly like the Hummel? Nashorn? conversions. Is that bridge-layer based on a Tiger 1?

Those are some very plausible ideas and great modeling work in 1/72 Brent!

Brent,

Looks good and nothing outlandish.

I guess the KT with Zim was just rebuilt and put back into service. "Waste not want not!"

What are the two built on Panzer IV chassis?

I need to get busy on my Ferdinand II a rebuilt and upgraded Elefant returning to the Kursk graveyard to pay its respects to its fallen comrades. If I do a diorama I can use an early Ferdinand rusted and scrapped along with a IS-III knocked out. Too bad I work in 1/35 and not 1/72 the space would be smaller.
