hey there guys
i have two sets of dragon u.s airborne operation varsity (1944)
i was wondering do these soldiers have the right airborne uniform for the begining of normandy invasion?? as i am planning on recreating a squad jus like those of easy company in band of brothers wherre they move into carentan..
dragons other set the u.s army anti tank team has two figures with m1 bazooka for infantry division and two more figures in PIR jump clothing would these be the same uniform as those of operation varsity box set??
does any one know where the ammo pouches for the thompson smg would be on a paratrooper i cant see them on band of brothers..
i use tamiya acrylics and have painted the unifroms in buff giving them a similiar colour just need to give a wash over for the shaded areas now! jump uniforms have green pouches on the knee/shin areas aswell as the elbow areas.. which colour would you say would be the best to paint them ??
cheers in advance
Tony

I haven't watched "BoB" in a while but I'm pretty sure they didn't have pouches specifically for the thompson in the series.
Here's a site that has a lot of info on there uniforms, gear, personal back rounds on the originals everything you would ever need for info about them.http://www.101airborneww2.com/index.html

No they wear the M43 jacket which was issued later.

Yes they also wear the M43 jacket which is wrong for Normandy.
Incidentally you would get a lot more answers if you titled your post with US paras in it and not just dragon sets.

The others so far are correct. The "Varsity" set is useful for paras from Holland through the end of the war. All paras in Normandy wore the M1942 uniform. This is featured in the Dragon US Airborne Normandy set.
The two guys in the AT set who are not kneeling who you mentioned are wearing the M1943 uniform. This differs from the uniform in the "Varsity" set in not having the big cargo pockets on the legs. If you are good with putty, you can convert them to paras (also, not all paras got he pockets sewn on, but I would add them just so there's no confusion on the part of a viewer).
In the Varsity set, the para with the Thompson has TWO Thompson SMG pouches. One is hanging via a strap, the other is on his belt. Each is fairly long and has a single snap closure. MANY of the soldiers in the Band of Brothers series have the first type (Sgt. Martin, Lt. Welsh, Lt. Speirs, Sgt. Guarnere, etc.) in various parts of the series.
Hope this helps.

Sorry I was confusing the AT set with the Support weapons teams set which has two Paras with the M43 jackets and cargo pockets on their pants with a recoiless rifle.

The Short answer as the others have indicated is no. DML do a Normandy set of 101st which are OK:

If you want to do the Bastogne period they also do a set which seems based on the Series:

From memory the resin figure producer NEMROD does some lovely US Paras for Normandy.
I hope this is helpful
