I know we're working on a campaign right now, but I had an idea for a future group build. How about an "Inter-war Years" campaign? The goal would be to build a vehicle in service between WW1 and WW2.

I have also an idea for a future group build- I would it call: "21st Century Digital Tank"

That includes tanks like Merkava III, Leopard 2 A5/A6, Callenger II, Leclerc, M1 A2, T- 90S,...
There are not that many tanks that were put in service since let´s say after 1995.

So there would be several Leopards, M1 or Challengers built in such a campaign and it would be quite interesting to compare the models, because any of us has a different style of building.

I like both proposals... Especially the "21st Century Digital Tank"
That would be great!

Although I'm quite new to this forum, I'll give my opinion too.

How about "Self Propelled Guns"? (As said, I'm new to this forum, so this if a former campaign - Please ignore this suggestion!)

Or, how about a cross-over between sci-fi and armor? Say, a sci-fi armor campaign? Take any ordinary tank kit you have, and do some oodles of fun on it (e.g., place Revell's PzH2000 155mm gun on a Merkava, using the turret of the the Sheridan, remove the tracks and replace it with something to make it look like a hover tank, etc. etc.)! Fun fun fun! Let your imagination go wild! What does the forum sayeth? :-)

Hey, my M1/York conversion would fit into this category really nicely.

Uh-Oh - me thinks "Twilight 2000" is catching on! I'd LOVE to do that as a Campaign!

I am in on a twilight 2000 campaign...is that a great idea or what? I will give a bow of the hat to anyone who makes the T-90 or M1A2 "giraffe"...

I hate campaigns. #:-) Forces me to build more models. #:-) STOP THE PAIN PLEASE!!!

I'm probably in (sigh... here we go again... first Barbarossa, then Cold War, then THIS!), with a Dragon M1A2, Leo2A5 or Challenger II. If SP Arty campaign, I'll enter my yet unfinished but sorely needing attention PzH2000 or AS-90. Sigh... please... help me... stop... now... please... have... mercy...

There are Twilight 2000 vehicle guides all over ebay if anyone wants to snatch one. I am pretty sure I still have the US Army vehicle guide around somewhere. M1 with the robotic turret, anyone. Let's have at it.

If we brave souls were to setup a "Twilight 2000" (and even a Self-Propelled Guns) Campaign - when oh when would it work best with all considering the other Campaigns happening on site?

That is one cool link! I hope it lasts long enough for all interested to use if they don't have the Twilight 2000 game guides themselves. I like the Sep-Oct timeframe idea - kinda harkens to thoughts of the "Missiles of October" and "Red October". This Campaign could wind up being called "The Twilight War"...

Hey, I just found my copy of the US Vehicle Guide. I didn't remember how cool it was. The M113 with the LAV turret is extremely cool.

For those of us who actually know women in the biblical sense, what exactly is "Twilight 2000?" I have a feeling it is a futuristic military game of some type with a lot of "what if" types of vehicles. Is it some type of role playing game, card game or video game?

Hey now, be nice. I'm on my third marriage I'll have you know... "Twilight 2000" is a RPG set in the year 2000 in a post WWIII Europe. I played it in while I was going to Purdue, way back in 1982. The game had a lot of conjuctural vehicles, Abrams tanks with unmanned autoloader turrets, for example. Hope this helps. I have to get off the computer now, I think the wife has the Bible out... Oh come on Rob, I hope you are pulling our legs...

Plenty of us out here who liked that game AND dated real women...and good looking. Just had to hang around ROTC guys to play it...UGH!

anyhow, think Dungeaons and Dragons in modern Times with guns instead of majic. THe main idea was World War III started in the mid-90's...nukes flew and everything, and the games starts off with the year 2000 and what is left of the world...some units still in good shape, some in marauder mode. Part of the cool factor were the "color plates" they had inthe middle of the vehicle recognition book, setup like a Squadron book, with some history onthe vehicle et all.

Just let you imagination run free, and think of all the vehicles that might have been, and you are pretty much there. Your M1/Sgt. York is a perfect example of this.

They even had a laser armed M1 with a "cherry picker" holding up the main laser...I think it was ADA.

and I agree that the M113 with LAV turret, the M115A1, kicked butt...I am making one right after I finish my M110A2 for the cold-war campaign.

Yeah Rob - I played the game during College too - and happened to be married!

Twilight 2000 was a pretty detailed RPG simulation depicting the aftermath of a Nuclear Exchange between NATO and Soviet powers in the late 1990's. The characters are set in devastated areas, with limited supplies, and settings for Gamemasters to guide them through. Anything from HMMWV's to SSBN's could be found in a campaign.

For modelers, it was/is a great source of inspiration. Because of the "Twilight War" I built one of the favorite HMMWV's in 1:35th scale I came up with when I played the game - a HHV hardback equipped with heavier shocks/springs to carry a 4.2" Mortar and a Scout Cycle on a rack in the rear. I entered this model in the very first Hypothetical Category at IPMS/USA Nationals in 1994 - and won First Place with it.

LOL, I couldn't have said it better Rob. :-)

Seriously though. I was going to propose a campaign once all the others had started to clear up, but it looks as we have another in the books. And while I would say that we could look at my idea in the future, this one is pretty close.

My proposal: Experimental vehicles/Paper tanks. Vehicles that never made it past the drawing board, or made it into the manufacturing stage, but never into full production. Some examples: M247 Sgt York (working on it for the Cold War campaign, and gave me the idea), the Maus, those big ol' tanks the U.S. experimented with for a bit there in the late forties and early fifties, etc.

But this one seems pretty close, you just can use your imagination a bit more. But let me ask, does the vehicle have to be modified? Can a Leopard, or Abrams be modelled with just a few minor modifications?

Sure, if "The Twilight War" grew into a campaign you would be free to use a "stock" Leopard, Abrams, Bradley, or whatever suits your fancy. Twilight 2000 took off from the basic vehicles and extrapolated some design concepts into the 'reality' of the game.
