Hi guys,
My latest build is complete, just the paint to add now, (but we won't get into a paint mix for SCC 15!).
It's Tamiya's excellent 1/35 Cromwell with, tamiya's PE grills and a few of my own touches, all from the spares bin:
- PE tool clamps
- Replacement shovel from Tamiya
- Jerry can rack on the right rear fender
- Stowage box from resicast
- Wire to replace headlamp guards (these were broken on the spruces)
- Front side lamps and spotlight were wired up
- Casted areas given a couple of coats of Mr. Surfacer
- Stowage is from Tamiya and Italeri
Here's some pics:
The figures are a mix of various British Tamiya figs with Verlinden heads:
All feedback and comments greatly appreciated, thanks for looking!
James

Hi James,
Looking good so far, the Cromwell is a nice build.
You could add a ton more stowage to the rear, that's a nice big flat deck to work with
Is the vehicle moving or stationary? You might want to move the 2nd crewman so that he is looking more towards the way the commander is pointing, or move the commander around a bit towards the front of the turret, so that the interaction between then is better.
Don't forget the cables and the jerry can by the front MG is in a bad position as it would interfer wiht the field of fire of the MG.
Look forward to seeing the finished product.

James -
Not too familiar with the British armor, but looks like you've put a lot of time and work into this. Looking forward to the finished pics once your painting is finished. Thanks for sharing your pictures!

James-- what does the cables type arrangement at the top of the turret represent? Doesn't look like a tow cables. Appears to be flat and slighttly offset from the turret.

Hi Alan thanks for the comments, yes the Cromwell really is a nice build, a true 'shake and bake' kit.
Plan A did indeed have a lot more stowage on the rear deck, but as this was supposed to be a quick and easy build, I chickened out. However, It does seem far too sparse so I'll likely revert back to having more stuff on there.
The tank will be stationary, but don't worry about the interaction between the figures, they were just 'dropped' in for the purpose of the photo's, they will be put in with far more care later on.
The cables are built, replacing picture hanging wire for the Tamiya string, however, they have been left off for painting and will need to be glued down to sit properly.
The Jerry can doesn't actually interfere with the hull besa, and a few reference pics I have show Cromwells with a jerry can or a bundle of stowage in this location, make use of any space available, was obviously the motto!
Thanks again, i'll post some more pics of my progress,
James

Thanks Tim!
You'd be surprised, while I have put some effort in, this kit goes together so well that I only started it last Monday, just doing a few hours on it in the evenings, and during that time i've also managed to decorate two rooms!
As mentioned i'll keep you posted with pics,
James

Hi DJ, that is some thin copper wire, to represent a similar arrangement seen on Cromwells in reference pictures. The theory is that they used telephone cable wire and used it to attach camouflage and the odd peice of stowage to the turrets of their tanks.
Thanks,
James

As promised here are some update pics of the build, now that the base coat is on.
It was sprayed with a combination of Tamiya acrylics, but please don't ask the actual mix as I didn't keep track and altered the colour with each coat.
Glossy areas are clear coat ready for the transfers, I'm running out and so didn't do the entire tank.
It looks lighter in the pics than it really is, and will be darkened down with washes+filters etc. during the weathering process.
(By the way I forgot to mention in my first post that as a personal touch I have also added the stowage bin on the rear of the turret from a Churchill, with rivet and lock detail added from lead foil and spare PE.)
Thanks for looking,
James
