Hi there,
I am planning to build a contemporary Marines´ LAV-25 with a 3-tone camouflage, but I wonder, what is its undercoat so that I can do the chipped paint properly???
I saw some Strykers with chipped paint and the undercoat was a shade of yello colour. Is it possible that on LAV-25 it would be the same???

Jiri,
I'm working on the answer for you. I know what they come out of the factory in but I'm trying to verify what the rebuild shops use, it could be two separate colors.

I work on the real things, I agree with White4, when the new builds leave General Dynamics, they are a solid green. After they arrive at the depots and have had the mod's applied to them they are then painted in either sand or more likely the 3 color pattern. The paint is very resiliant and does not chip easliy. That paint is CARC paint, Chemical Agent Resistant Coating. If it the paint is chipping and flaking off, it can't do it's job of protecting the crew against a NBC threat. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, because I'm sure some one will post a million pics of LAV's w/paint chips in them, but it's unlikely the paint will chip or flake off.

Randy,
I work at the LAV facility in Woodbridge. You are right to a point, even though the vehicles leave the plant in Canada painted OD Green in Carc, Carc paint does in fact paint and chip. We've had brand new vehicles sent to us for testing arrive with chipped or flaked paint. It's hard to spot (since everything is green) but it's there. By use the cause is the tarps and chains used to tie-down the vehicles on the trailers. I've also been involved in training the Marines on their new upgraded LAV's and they also get vehicles delivered directly from the shops (either their depots or our plants) with chipping on them, but once again hardly noticeable. So far all of the new upgraded vehicles have only been delivered in plain old green, no natoflage or desert tan. When I say new vehicles I'm referring to the LAVA1 Upgrades not SLEP and the brand new LAVA2's.

Hello All,
For those interested in the base coat of the LAVIII/Stryker and LAVII the magical color or colour is semi-gloss white. This is what's applied on the production line, I'll try and fine out if there is a FS number for it.
