Hey Rick,
British and Commonwealth uniforms were a manufactured in variety of Khaki colours.
I use five Humbrol colours: #159 Khaki Drab, #121 Matt Pale Stone, #83 Matt Ochre, #72 Matt Khaki Drab, #29 Matt Dark Earth and #26 Matt Khaki.
I usually add a touch of #34 Matt White, #103 Matt Cream or #148 Matt Radome Tan to lighten the base colour.
When and where your figure is supposed to be will also dictate the colours you use.
Newer uniforms will be darker and brighter as washing and the usual wear and tear on uniforms in the field will cause fading.
You can use a bit of artistic license when you paint the uniforms, making the pants darker, shirts/jackets lighter or vice versa.
Uniforms in North Africa, Sicily and Italy tended to get faded more rapidly than those in North West Europe or England.
Canadian uniforms were generally a bit greener than British uniforms so I use #159 Khaki Drab.
I'm certain that some of the other guys have similar or different palettes of colours they use.
If you're doing a group of figures, mix and match the colours you use so they'll look more realistic.
Cheers

Tank you jjumbo, sorry about delay for the thanks had to stop modeling & work. I was using Vallejo English uniform color but thought it looked to brown compared to all the box art the figures came in. I will definatly give Humbrol colors the try as i think they also brush paint well for me. Just finished Tasca's firefly for a dio & needing to finish my crew this will be a big help. New to the site but a long time armor modeler had trouble finding this post again to reply. Thanx again for the great help.Happy modeling, Rick.
