Hey,

I've been building the Tamiya Jeep, but I'm very confused where to put the Thompson gun on the right hand side of the Jeep. The instructions aren't very clear on this.

I've did some google searches, but it looks everyone just left of the gun...

If someone can tell me where exactly to add it, or maybe a picture would be even nicer!

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the info, but I'm pointing to the tommy gun rack on the right hand side, not the rifle holder on the window shield...

It should be somewhere on the right hand side, just after the wheel, but I can't see the right location from the instructions...

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

There is no official Thompson SMG rack on the right side. Whatever you'd be referring to would have been installed by the crew or the unit. Maybe this answers your question?

Here's a picture showing a leather gun scabbard (not the Thompson one) strapped to the rear view mirror bracket :

I haven't built mine yet so I don't know the answer but hopefully the pic clarifies things.

There are leather straps on the back side of the scabbard which would be tied around the windshield support.

It hangs from the windshield support.

Maybe the scabbard could be strapped to the windshield frame (near the joint) ?...

EDIT : Fledermaus has beaten me to it ...Next time I'll type faster.

Here's a picture showing (on top) the M1940 Scabbard for the M1A1 Thompson SMG originally designed for the Harley-Davidson WLA :

Thanks a lot guys! All the info helped a lot!!!!

I'm not sure if I will add the holder to the jeep, but now, if I want to add it, at least, I know where to put it!

Sure, it was only a TV show, (the best on one TV if you a five year old kid) but as historically inaccurate as it was, they sometimes managed to get the small details right:

No, No, No & No

Placement of objects such as these was NEVER some kind of random process. Everything was laid down in various documentation which effectively carried the same weight as an order. Start studying the various ordnance manuals and you'll see what I mean

In theater, the rules became more flexible and the operational requirements would change. Few officers would have the time (or inclination) to make sure everything followed the book. Major items yes - Thompson holsters - unlikely...

Here's a screen grab from the history channel showing it shoved behind the passenger seat of a Photo correspondent's jeep

If it had been my jeep during that time frame, the thomson would have been in my lap. But from what I've seen, the Thompson leather saddle bag goes on the right side window pillar post area
