I am sure this is part of the mine clearing system. I think it drops flares after the tank to mark a clear path.

I beleive this is a unditching device, The mine clearing options for this tank are the KMT-6 and the KMT-7 the first is a blade type and the second is a roller type. i am not positive but i beleive so. Mike
