Hi all,
I love the what if's of WWII AFVs. I want to do something that I haven’t seen out there before. I know that the Panzer IX and Panzer X were truly just paper panzers used for propaganda purposes but I think this is the perfect What if! I was thinking about one of them in 1/35 scale.
Does anyone know if there’s a kit out maybe in resin. I am after some inspiration, can anyone find something more than the black and white profile sketches that are all over the net? Even if its artwork or drawings.
Thanks all!

DazzaD,
You may want to check Secret Panzer Projects from Trojca
http://www.rzm.com/books/mht/mht033.cfm
It may have diagrams that you can refer to

Oow please, a Trojca book?
Anyway, a publication giving diagrams of the Pz IX and X really can't be taken seriously.
The Germans didn't have anything more than the 2 rather comic-style drawings they published.
They did toss in some "specs" and that makes these vehicles rather huge.

Gee, haven't gone through any Trojca publication. Generally, would you say its not a reliable source for reference material?

Well, those Panzer IX and X drawings are all that exist of these disinformation projects, and they literally look like napkin doodles. I imagine you could construct a styrene plastic box and coat it with epoxy putty to produce the curved shapes shown and do the same for the turret. Then detail with anything in your spares box. Certainly nobody could say they were wrong!

Thanks guys,
Lots of good info. I know this is a hard one but that kinda why I am interested in making it. Theres some good artists impressions that are on a few of them that will help alot.
Just out of interest, tat, you were saying that the Trojca books are not reliable. I am keen to get some books and info on the rare experimental armor that the Germans madedesigned. What are the best books that you guys know about? Cheers!

Thanks DazzaD -- it was actually a question I posed to Herbert's reaction after my post mentioning Trojca. So I'm not sure on the reliability side, and I don't own one as well.
For other reference material, you may try Panzer Tracts -- they have 2 volumes on Paper Panzers (though nothing really on the Pz IX and X). Or probably look for Spielberger's Special Panzer Projects. That's what I can think of for now -- maybe the other guys can comment as well.
Cheers

No hassles tat, thanx 4 the up on the Special Panzer Variants book. Looks like one worth getting. I got panzer tracts 20-1 that has the E-series and the Lowe in it. Excellent detail but very light on the pictures. I'll do me some searching on the special AFV projects and see what I can find.
Thanks again

Well, the fact a book on the E-series is light on pictures is simple, only the E-100 was being built, at a slow pase, and the others were nothing more than designs, although I haven't even ever seen a design of any E-hull, all that I've seen of period drawings is for the disc-suspension components.
Further, a lot of ideas had been tossed around about new techniques, upgunning, modifying and adapting of just about any chassis in production.
If for instance you would read Spielberger's Panther und seine Abarten, you can find oodles of Panther-variations.
Also, for the Tiger several ideas had been formed, but very little went further than just ideas or the drawing board.
And if you really want to get super-special look for Midgaardschlange...

DazzaD,
I don't know if you read Chinese or maybe its Japanese, if you do, here is a site that features the Panzer IX & X in resin.
http://www.jttk.zaq.ne.jp/a-if/g-049.htm
Larry
PS I believe the scale is 1/144th
