Anyone recommend best method/ paint type for metal guitar strings. Going to try using them as radio antennas.
Thanx Doug

Acrylics will not stick. I use enamel paint (with some success) . I ruff up the wire with fine sand paper first, this seams to help.
Good luck, Jerry

hi doug, I would not use any paint that is water based, the guitar strings could rust. The best way to paint them would be to prime them first(oil or thinner based)and use an oil based paint for the finish coat. HTH....Vince

I've used enamels on the few I've done, and haven't had any problems yet.

I've used patina for leaded glass, which I have every reason to believe is essentially the same as Blacken-It (or whatever it's called; I can't get it around here). You first have to hit the antenna with some fine sand paper to allow the stuff to work on the bare metal. What I like about the patina/blacken-it is that a couple of light rubs with a tissue will give it just enough of a metallic sheen to really make it pop.

I use regular hardware enamel spray paint. It works nicely with me

I have 4 guitars and mostly use Ernie Ball or D'Addario nickel plated strings. But I personally find DR stainless steel strings make most authentic looking antennas
I just paint with MM enamel metallic grey.
I'm thinking about using a used roundwound D or A string as a tow cable.
