Here is a very basic question. However I figured I would ask the experts about this.

I am building a diorama for the Borders Of The Fatherland '44-'45 campaign. It is going to be a pillbox in the Siegfried Line.

My question is this..........what color(s) do you recommend to use to paint the ground before you start adding static grass, rocks, etc????

Thanks for the help.

Randy,

no mystery here, take your whole range of earth Brown's and go ahead. Raw Umber washes on some places, perhaps Olive green's on other's. Some nice drybrushing with Tan, light Brown's , sand colours, play around, nature allows a lot of variation.

Cheers

Hi Harv,
That depends on what part of the Siegfried line you are going to do. If it is in or near a wooded area, then the soil should be dark. If it will be near an urban enviroment it will be a lot lighter.
Choose your base colour and then add lighter tones on the higher parts. Washes and drybruching will do the rest.

Thank you for the replies guys. I appreciate your help. I didn't know if there was a main color that everyone used or if they just went with what looks good to them. I will have to experiment around a little and see what I come up with.

Thank you for the suggestions.
