Am interested in Birch tree seeds for leaves on trees. Anyone know where to buy them? No birch forests around here, and birch cones sold on the Internet don't seem to have the seeds anymore.

Here's one source. The product listed as "Forest litter" is what you're looking for.

Plant one a White birch or Paper I think they call them.

No birch woods? In the north-eastern US? Crikey ...

You could see if any of your neighbours has a birch in the garden. I have one and, believe me, the seeds are absolute little buggers that get everywhere. I'd love to find a willing taker for them (and don't get me started on fir needles). The only slight drawback is that you'd have to wait about another five months before they became available.

It's been like that for as long as I can remember. I honestly don't know why people keep linking to Hudson&Allen...

Try Ausfwerks,

Could try to make it yourself, thats what I do.

First, Go to your local goodwill or thrift store, pick up an old blender for 3 or 4 bucks

Secondly, collect small twigs, bark, leaves etc that you can find, about 4 or 5 measuring cups worth. Make sure theyre small pieces, and no rocks. If you are worried about critters, just chuck it all in the microwave for a minute. That should kill any creepy crawlies.

Empty it all in blender, turn on to high speed, let it run for a few minutes. voila, you have ground cover, and a way to make it from now on withoput shelling out $7.00 every couple of months.

Steve,

I'm not looking to create forest litter, but leaves for making my own deciduous trees. Birch seeds look remarkably like oak leaves, so I am keen to purchase them.

Your suggestion for making real forest litter is a good one, though I suspect that blended twigs would look more like logs in 1/35th scale.

Well all I can say is you must have different oak trees in America than we do in the UK. Maybe they look like Maple or even a variety of Maple but the birch seeds I've seen don't look like oak leaves to me.

Plus Models would be my choice if I wanted to be specfic about what leaves I wanted to represent, and they do Oak leaves, both in 1/35 and 1/48 scale. Even if I was doing only 1/35 I'd buy both to get a nice size variation.
