A friend of mine is trying to locate a M10 (or a jackson if all else fails) in 1/72 and he is not having much luck. The only thing we could find was a 2-pack from Hat and he says it's too cheap looking. I thought Revell made one, but I cannot local it on the web. Any ideas?

Thanks

Extratech/Eduard has released 2 1/72 M10 kits #7229 and #7234, the latter includes PE parts and other goodies :

Thanks. We found the Achillies from them, but he's a wargamer and not a modeller. All the PE and metal bits would be too much for him. Glad to hear they make more simple kits. Do you know whats in the simple M10 kit? One piece tracks, no PE or metal barrel?

Personally, what I've seen of the HAT models is ideally suited to the wargamer. They are simplified but not as toy like or "molded single piece glob of plastic" as some that I've seen. Not as familiar with the HAT models M10, but had run accross some of their offerings that I had considered as the basis of a more detailed model.

You can see what's in the M10 kit box on Eduard's website. The "Extrapack" edition is shown, as they don't list #7229 kit (but I've found it at other online shops IIRC). The styrene sprues should logically be the same ....The tracks are the "links & lengths" type.

This is true: The HAT and the Extratech are the only two plastic M10 available. The HAT is very simple but it is a wargame model and there is nothing on the turret interior. The Extratech is good only if you buy the Extrapack version since this is the only one that has some turret interior that is visible from above.

Now moving from plastic to resin... In 1/72 you have ALBY (a French manufacturer) that has a excellent and very expensive conversion for the Italeri M4A1 Sherman, and the future Iron Division conversion for the Dragon Sherman http://www.topgunmilitary.net/72ndProductList.html

And finally and 1/72 my favorite is Hobby Master (since it is already build and you just have to put some stowage on it) is: http://www.hobbymastercollector.com/1-72M10achillesindexpage.html I have two of these (and more coming ). They are fantastic.

Now moving to 1/76 you have quite a few manufacturers in resin and white metal. Normally these are easy to assemble since they have only a few parts:

Cromwell (Resin): http://www.xs4all.nl/~cromwell/ under the "Combat Ready" range http://www.xs4all.nl/~cromwell/A04-3-1.jpg
SHQ (white metal): http://www.shqminiatures.co.uk/Ranges/WWII/American/Americanmain.php?UID=20080602172435193.136.129.15
MMS (white metal): http://www.mmsmodels.co.uk/classic.html Item 938
Skytrex (white metal) http://www.skytrex.com/ under their "Military Vehicles & Figures" range "Hinchliffe 20mm (1:76 SCALE) "

Hope this helps

The HaT M-10 is perfect for a wargamer. You can add some detail to the open turret if you want to. I used a breach and some spare shells from the Fujimi M-36 "Jackson." The HaT kit should be perfect for your friend and you get 2 vehicles in one box for $10.00.

He was about to get the Hat and some extra Verlinden bits, but it looks like he's going with the Hobby Master one. May get one myself!

Thanks
