Guys & dolls:
I want to show a downed plane in water.
My question is have any of you guys done this?, if so what did you use for your water so it doesn't melt the thin plastic of my plane? I don't like REALISTIC WATER or WATER EFFECTS I would like to use some kind of RESIN. So if you can help me I would appreciate it.

I have done a bunch of testing with casting resin.

I found no bad affects for the main plastics I tested, tamiya, itlarie, food containers. I DID find that this stuff fogs clear plastics. The best thing I found for clear plastic was clear sheet styrene. Every once in a while there was a slight 'denting' of the plastic right at the 'water line' - nothing major and nothing that couldn't be fixed with some waves splashing up on the AC.

Bottom line - TEST IT FIRST.

There have been many posts on this subject. Lots of folks use the Envirotex liquid. You can put it on in fairly thick coats. One word of warning... most resins are exothermic and generate considerable heat when curing. Cold cure products are your best bet.
