Back in 05 in Iraq I saw a USMC convoy passing thru . The Hummers had the SLAT armor add on package . I only saw them that one time and I didn't have my camera . Now for the life of me I cant find a pic of one on line . So if some one cames across a link post it here please .

If you saw a slat type armor, it was a unit specific field modification. Neither the Army nor the Marines ever adopted a "slat" armor kit at anytime.

What you saw was probably a one time thing that was replaced by a DoD required, field installed up-armor kit.

I agree with Brent. There is no Slat Armor kit for the HMMWV. Are you sure it wasn't a Stryker that you saw? All Strykers in Iraq have the slat armor.

Whoa there's a very BIG difference between a Stryker and a Humvee though.

Maybe he saw an M-1117 ASV? But even those I have not seen with any slat.

I haven't seen any M1117s w/slat either. The only slat-armored vehicle types I have seen are M113s and Strykers.

Several versions of the MRAP, notably the Buffalo, are popping up with the slat armor as well.

Slightly
Other candidates for the "slat" armor :
RG-31 Charger (in fact it's a bar armor kit, similar to the one fitted to the M113) :

M93A1 Fox with slat armor :

Some USMC HUMVEES in Iraq did have a slat type armor on them. The only ones I know of had them mounted on the doors only. Pics of them are in some of the Concord books exclusive to OIF (I can't remember which issue number, but me gots it at home)...

This reminds me of the Portuguese Humvees used in Afghanistan :
