Hi to all,

I would like to know which set do you recomend me to detail AFV Club centurion. I´ve seen Eduard has a few sets, voyager has a set and firestorm has some sets.

What other aftermarkets exist for it and how good are they?

Which one produces a correct mantlet cover?

Thanks in advance,
Angel

Hello mate
I've just seen your question re the Cent. If you are still waiting to build it.I used the Eduard set and the AFV clubmantlet. They were both pretty good.I'm just starting a build myself so was scouting the site.Do you know what jerry cans I could use? As the crews would have a line of them on the raer deck.
Thanks in advance

I would go with the Formations gear- particularly the replacement rims. As for Jerry cans the Australian Army used British Style Jerry cans for POL and British and American for Water (Mainly the British Plastic style. A fair few of these are generally carried to allow for Radiator top ups and crew needs. Some cans would have white, red or Blue splashes on the upper surface near the spout to denote what was in them (Oils and Hydraulic fluids etc). Some US type POL cans are seen but these are rare.

Here's a pic of my Cent 5/1's Jerry can stowage - there was often a mix of types and an ammo box thrown in:

One essential upgrade with any Cent build is to get rid of those bloody silly soft rubber tyres!

Aussie company Firestorm models provides resin replacements with its excellent comprehensive update set, or they are available on their own.

Firstorm also do an excellent resin mantlet cover, which I reviewed here.

You will find another link to the Firestrom tyres and the fellow Aussie manufacturer Mousehouse's white metal idler wheel,

Mousehouse also do a set of fabricated heavy duty guards ... it depends on what era you wish to depict your Aussie Cent in.

You can have a look at a build log for my Cent at http://www.armorama.co.uk/forums/130382&page=1

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU.

Thanks guys for your replies.

I have Voyager´s set and Firestorm replacement for the rubber tyres, idler wheels and dry transfers. I also have Mouse House´s centurion book.

I will compare the Voyager´s set with Eduard´s instructions to see whether I might need it.

I will be buying another centurion (I already have Firestorm´s replacement set for the rubber tyres) and I am thinking on getting FireStorm´s set for the mine clearing centurion.

Right now I am not building much because I might change my job and also of country. This year I almost went to the States to work but things didn´t come out as expected. Right now I am in the final interview for a job in China and another for India. Once my future becomes more clear I will be able to model something.

Thanks again and have a nice day,
Angel

Angel,
I cannot recommend the Firestorm Update highly enough. Great looking parts, minimal warping or bubbles in the parts. Their customer service was great as I was missing several parts and an e-mail took care of the issue. They provided several extra parts so, I can probably do another Aussie Cent some time in the future... Make sure that you get the update with the mantlet/searchlight mount.

That being said, I was not as happy with the casting in the Mouse House Centurion update although it did provide several specific items that were not in the Firestorm update.

John
