I just started the M113A3 my ? is the instructions call for the engine to be painted steel in color but when i look at the box it looks like a gunmetal or flat black in color any siggestions on how i sould go about this

The engine is actually usually painted a shade of dark green or seafoam green like the rest of the interior. The tranny is usually either steel or green. You can see an early M113A2 engine below. It has the engine and tranny in dark green, with various other pieces in different colors.



Also of note, the engine in the Academy kit is not an M113A3 engine, but an early M113A2 engine. An M113A3 engine/tranny is totally different and looks like below.
