Hello,
I have never built armor before or any ground vehicles before. This is why I came here. I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me which model kit and/or after market is needed to make a 1/35 U.S. Army Special Forces Humvee? If you could help out it would be a big help.
Thank you,
JD

It depends upon the time period you want to depict. There's a guy on here doing some pretty interesting GMV variants that you could do with little or no buying of aftermarket parts, but that require quite a bit of scratchbuilding. Pro Art makes a nice conversion that several guys have used if you're not up for a scratchbuild. AEF Designs makes one as well. Stay away from it.
For current SF M1114's and 1151's there are no conversions available yet.
There's not much these days that separates the base SF vehicles from CF vehicles, other than the plethora of weapons they usually contain, and the fact that few, if any, run with Rhinos, Dukes, or sniper netting on the turret. Some have also had the tailpipes removed and the catalytic converters punched out.
Seat cushions are also usually removed to facilitate egress and the ability to fight from the vehicle.

MIGs M1114 conversion set can be used as an early M1114 SF vehicle, or as a base to add more add-on armor for a more current one.

While you CAN use the Mig M1114 upgrade, the problem is that I personally have not seen it used by 1st, 10th, 5th, or 19th Groups. That's NOT to say they didn't use it, but most units went from straight up 1025's in '02 to the GMV, and then on to the Frag 5 1114's right after GMV 's were taken out of combat service just last year. There may have been some used (and undoubtedly if they were, Google images will shortly follow, but I personally have not seen that version used by SF.
As mentioned earlier, the Pro Art set is a very good start for a GMV. There are a few minor size problems with some of the parts, but overall it gives you everything you need. By the way, there is a review of it out that incorrectly states that Pro Art gives you gun mount parts that were not used. They were.

There are a few HMMWV kit manufacturers out there but I found the Tamiya M1025 kit a great one to start with as the base model. Really well engineered and the fit was perfect.

Nice side view of your 1151. I noticed that the front gun shield just misses the raised trunk lid when it's opened, was it designed like that? If it is and the trunk lid is fully extended it would help determining some critical measurements.
Jason if you do a search for 18 Bravo and Matte Black you'll find some great reference material and some interesting HMMWV builds.
I checked The Barrel store in Canada for the Pro Art Dumvee conversion but they are out. Why not try ordering from Pro Art direct, they are great people and have excellent service.
Good luck and have fun

Here is a link to my photo gallery pictures of a SF HMMWV. These pictures were also used to partially develop the Pro Art Dumvee conversion set.

Thank you for posting the link to the Humvee pictures. I will have to visit primeportal to get larger pictures. The Humvee I would like to replicate has a 7.62 Dillon M134. I will post a picture of the Humvee if I can figure out how to post pictures on this website. Wait I think I just figured it out........
Thanks guys!

Alright, I think I figured out how to upload this bad boy!
This is the mount that I may have to scratch or buy if I can get a single mini gun and mount
My only question as to how they get a mini gun on a Humvee is where does the automatic feed belt and ammo box go? I mean the have 4400 round boxes 3300 for littlebirds and 3000 for other things. If I remember they have 500 round ammo boxes but what do where would they put it in a Humvee???

Did you try and search for Matte Black?
Jeff Edgar posted some pics you might want to see on the thread started by Matte Black. Scroll down and you'll see some mini gun details.

Yes, it did help out. I learned what certain Hummer's are used for and what kind of weapons might be used and that units have certain guide lines for what can and can not be done to their vehicles. As far as the project goes, I have not started yet, I still ned to find a Pro Art conversion. I am going to start my Hobby Craft "Special Ops." Humvee as soon as I finnish a 1/32nd Zero I found at wal-mart for $10 last year. I have a new air brush and compressor and wanted to test it out and get a feel for it before I tried anything like a conversion. I must say that the Iwata Revolution CR and Silver Jet compressor do a much better job than my old $64 testors airbrush and compressor combo. Again, thank you all for you help and words of support.

Well after no luck with finding a Pro Art conversion for sale anywhere I guess I will have to build a different Humvee. What type of Humvee would have been used in Somalia back in '93?

1993 probably would have been a standard M1025 Armament Carrier.

Bill,
The clearance is probably a coincidence. I believe the trunk lid may even raise higher, but it's not an issue as I can easily slew the gun around.
Re your PM, I am alive and well, thanks.
