Hi ANdrew,
Check Legends Productions thay may have this conversion.
There is a compeny IMA or JMA that I believe does this as well. Ian at Friendship Models used to carry their range but I think due to supply problems no longer holds their stock.(SEE BELOW)
Gordon at Cromwells has a good range of Churchills but I don't think the ARK is one of them.
Sorry I can't be of more help, just can't remember the company name at the mo, MOMENTS LATER - Just checked and It's International Models Asia (IMA lol, lol) . Check them out I'm fairly sure they have this.

Didn't Resicast do an ARK (Churchill) at one point.
Perhaps he is going to update and re release it? If not lets ask him if that is possible.
Keith.

Churchill/AVRE novice question. I know the Churchill ARK was used in Italy and Normandy and the ARVE SGB was used at Normandy. Was the IMA bridgelayer a postwar development or was it used later in the war?
I have some limited space and with a 1/35 Dragon Wagon with a LCM for a load, so I'll be placing a premium on size. I have a Tamiya Mark VII with the Legend conversion kit, but the whole bridging unit will be too big. Wishing to produce a full line of Hobart's Funnies 1/72 would be the preferred scale. Who makes any AVRE kits in 1/72 scale? I have a AVRE/SGB by either Revell or Airfix, but there is a resin model made in Scotland and I am having a senor moment with their name.
Senor moment is now over the company is Milicast and they produce several AVRE's, not sure of any ARK's .

What you are discussing are the three UK methods of crossing an obstacle.
ARK - Drive it into the hole & then drive over the vehicle - Used by Combat Engineers
AVRE - SBG layer - Drive up to the hole, drop the bridge, drive over the bridge and complete the assault - Used by Combat Engineers
Churchill Bridgelayer (IMA kit) - After the assault is over, drive up to the hole, drop the bridge, drive over the bridge, come back later & pick up the bridge - Used by normal armoured division engineering troops.
All saw combat in WW II in their respective roles & units.

Having worked in a combat engineer unit I understood their use, but never have I seen any pictures of the IMA version in use in WW II pictures. I just wondered if it was a late or post WW II development. Anyone have any pictures?

Hi Andrew
I,m in the process of trying to do the Hobart Funnies (when I get time ) in 1/72 scale and ended up doing a wee diorama of a picture I saw .
Got a few Airfix Churchill's off E-Bay (9 of them).
Built the hulls and did a bit of scratch-building.
The outcome was this
Also built Churchill AVRE Bridge layer,
And just for fun
I'm also attempting to scratch-build the AVRE bridge in 1/35th scale.
Hope you don't mind me chiping in

Would hate to be the driver of the first/lowest Churchill into the hole!

Resicast's website www.resicast.com shows the Churchill ARK 1 (kit 351204) and ARK 2 - Italian pattern (kit 351222)
Hope that helps.
In my current stash I have one of each plus the IMA bridgelayer all waiting to be built. One day.......
Best wishes,
Craig

The Churchill Bridgelayer (the IMA kit) was a standard issue vehicle used by Churchill-equipped tank regiments (generally issued three per Brigade). The version based on the Mk IV Churchill was a wartime variant. The version based on the Mk VII hull was a post-war development.
The ARKs and the SBG Bridgelayers were specific to the Royal Engineers and were more specialised 'assault' vehicles (rather than generally gap-crossing). However, they were also utilised in other roles occasionally.
I have to say I've never actually seen evidence of the ARK being used in NW Europe (happy to be proved wrong), but the 'Italian Pattern' ARK (fitted with US Treadway Bridge sections) was definitely used in Italy.
Regards,
John
