I just ordered the Italeri LCM (IT 6436) kit from Lucky Models. It cost me $57 including shipping. Darn good price when compared to their competitors. They shippped it the same day I ordered it. Realizing it is a boat and not an AFV some may wonder why I am telling you about it here. Well. my fantasy is to complete the model and put it in a dio landing troops and Sherman(s) on a hostile shore. I have several references but none that tells me the interior color. Does any know if the outer color is the universal one for the vessel?
thanks

Hi DJ

The overhead photos here show that painting the LCM wasn't a very involved process - one colour inside and out above the waterline

http://www.ussrankin.org/id40.htm

BTW it wasn't used for carrying tanks much (despite what Airfix did with theirs) it was originally designed IIRC for the M3 Medium so the Sherman was a little heavy, as well as it being a bad idea tactically to land single tanks. However it was used during the Rhine crossings so you can just get away with it, and maybe with an M24 too.

David-- thank you as always. I have an Italeri M-24 on the shelf looking for an excuse to be next in line for completion. I plan on submitting an in-box review once I get the kit. It should be quite a project.
thanks again

David-- take a look at the series you sent me earlier. The turret of a Sherman is visible in one shot.

DJ - the caption next to the photo explains it's an LCM with the hull extended by 6'

I'm pretty sure though that the M4 was carried in the Rhine crossing.

David
Be on the safe side and put the M-24 in her. Does not appear to be a very complex model, there are less than 200 parts. I am looking forward to it.

Hi DJ,

Enjoy the build. I thought the Italeri kit was pretty good. If you want a Sherman in it look for some pics in Italy. I've seen them used there by the British for transporting Shermans/M7 Priests. Mind you the waters were much calmer.

As far as I know, NWE is out unless you do the Rhine Crossing.

Enjoy.

Alan-- many thanks. What colors did you paint your fnished model? I am thinking about a sea gray base them OD on the exterior on light over the base.

Hi DJ,

if you'r going for a USN boat then a light/blue grey I think is about right. I used a camo scheme but if you post a thread on Shipwrights they will give you the correct USN colour.

Have a look over on White Ensigns, they have all the correct colours:

http://www.whiteensignmodels.com/brochure/colourcoats_naval.htm#USN

I think it will depend on your location so probably finalise that first.

Hope this helps
