Hi friends, I wanted to know If it's necesary to paint with base painting before applying the technique of the Pre-shading? or I can apply it directly on the model after to wash the kit with dishwasher?

Also I want to know If be able to do the pre-shading technique applying with Humbrol paint H-33 dull black?

David please explains me with more details How do you make you weathering's stains in your models as for example you F-18A Play Boys? Do you use the pre-shading technique?

This questions is for Mal Mayfield too.
Thanks from Venezuela.

On armour I pre-shade over the primer only in selected areas and before the base coat. Depending on the basecoat colour I use either black (for olive drab or green) or dark brown (for sand/desert yellow). Remeber to apply light coats of the base colour, otherwise the pre-shading will disappear...

I have tried preshading without good results. I guess I didn't try long enough. I have found that if I use a "primer" coat of black, I can manipulate my base color enough to create shadows in cracks or where ever they should be.

As Fabio pointed out, paint light coats over the base coat or the preshading effect will be lost. I've tried this method on two of my AFV kits and ended up erasing all traces of it. Next time I'll try thinning my paints 70% thinner to 30% paint as an experiment.
