They all seem to have white walls, or at least white road wheels. Makes for easy AFV recognition.

Looks like a parade paint scheme. Maybe one of our china connections would have more info? #:-)

The Type 69 looks like a T-55 clone... correct?

The tanks are well painted... nice targets... especially those big, red stars. The one night fire picture does not show the white paint on the road wheels... that may even be white wash put on for parades.

Did you guys read the part in the article about the laser defense system? The laser detector will warn the crew that they are being "painted" by a laser. Then they TRANVERSE THE TURRET TO FACE THE SOURCE AND HIT THE SOURCE WITH THE DAZZLER. Man, I don't really know all that much about it but I'm thinking those guys had be be pretty damn quick with an awful fast turret traverse speed.

Yeah it's definitely a parade scheme. I remember the old may-day parades in Red Square, similar set up. The paint scheme is also a bit glossy, I guess the PLA have been busy with the old Simoniz.....Jim

The old Belin Brigade from the 70's used to polish their tanks shiny roadwheels and all.

Maybe I'm wrong ,but don't you guys think that the turrets on these things are looking a lot like an Abrams turret ??

It does look similar to the Abrams. Odd for a russian/chinese tank. It's not too surprising, though: the Abrams is just one of several with similar turrets with lots of angles. The Leopard 2, Challenger 2 and Merkava 3 come to mind, plus the Leclerc to a lesser extent. none are exactly matches, but they're fairly close.

I think the Dazzler can also move independent if you compere the photo's you can see the Dazzler is not always aimd in the same direction.
