This is to be a confiscated Italian fishing boat, turned into a coastal radio/patrol boat by the Germans.
Don't laugh but I'm thinking of putting a pulpit [ as on the sharking boat ORCA in JAWS ] on the bow for placing mine bouys to mark channels.
There is lots more to do, colors need washes to tone down the brightness, this that and a thousand other things - but it keeps me busy - when I get a chance to sit and model.
Thanks for looking - Glenn

Looks excellent!

I like using kitsin places you wouldn't expect. Who makes the fishing boat kit or was it scratch built. Kepp up the good work and post more pictures when you can!

Hi Jim, thanks, the fishing boat base kit is by Billing Boats. It's 1/33 scale and was a lesson in patience being an all woodie.

Glenn,

Toned down or not, that combination of wood (civilian fisher) and metal (German armaments) is wicked! Gawd, the browns verus grays is soooo slick. So different. You've got a show-stopper here bro. Zoiks.

Now, you've got this under Dioramas....ooooo, ooooo, what's the game plan?

Love it dude, love it! Can't wait to see some more....wow........

Nice work of you both!

I also have some humble doubts about the searchlight on top of the hut. I think its rather big for its purpose. Did you both use references for the build??

Following this build!

Killer job Glenn!! That's a very great conversion you've been doing! Actually i wonder if you just put so much guns on the boat that it would start to sink soonish
I really love the amount and diversity of colours used really, I think it will look totally great after you have been weathering it, congratulations!!

Glenn -

Thought I'd lost track of this build and kept looking under the 'Ship' for updates. As always, just superb workmanship and the details are terrific. As mentioned, the blending of the wood kit with all the other features really gives it character. Love the 'firepower' you'e added, and it really gives this conversion some "teeth". Can't wait to see it in it's setting and knowing the masterful dioramas in past, this will be something to behold. Keep them updates coming,

Hi Glen, excellent modelling skills looking good I hope you wont be offended if I could offer some advice(certainly not about the build) the door on the accomodation access looks to be constructed of wood but the added hand wheels suggest a water tight door if this is the case the door would be steel and wouldnt be a feature of the original built trawler could make it a modification, but the whole access structure would need to be steel to fit in.

Thanks guys, Tac fire - Mike, how's it goin man long time no type.
Doimi, I'd love to see more pics of that dio , destroyed you say - criminal !!!!!
Jean, thanks man. Due to the, O amount of confiscated coastal patrol boats refs I'm morphing a little what if with Hollywood.
The 60cm searchlight is not heavy and was also used on the 251. The ship is roughly 60 feet or so in 1/35th and the pilot house is about 15 by 12 or 13 feet , it' ll handle the weight.
Mike Blade Durr, hey man how's it goin ? This coupled with the village, docks and church/monastery thing gives me a real good feeling on eventually finishing something, lol !!!!! Don't mean nothing, I'm having a good time building !!!
Phil, yeah, I hear ya, like I said with the total absence of refs I just thought the water tight doors would look better than a Kwikset entry set from Home Depot.
I won't put a Panther A late or KT in an Africa setting, but with what I'm building here ........ the wheel lock door [ I'm hoping .............well not now, thanks Phil, l.o.l. ] will be overshadowed by the dio.
I usually put figs in with the pics for ref sizing.............. As stated above the pilot house should handle the 60cm searchlight ...........if not I'm not sending Tom Hanks or Speilberg any Xmas cards !!!!!

Oh and if you look in the background on this pic ..........If an open sided salon type thingie on the aft of this ship can support a 4,5, or 6 inch gun, not one but two !!! [ don't know what they are ] than this sturdy Italian fishing boat , probably made out of Teak, Mahogany [ sp ? ] or Oak, most likely will support a 60cm searchlight. I hope .................... but than again I'm not serving on this ship , l.o.l.
Yeah, I know those are the same guys you've been lookin at for years, l.o.l.

Thanks again for looking - Glenn

Oh yeah , Jean , more build pics on the Protet !!!!!!!!!!!

Gday Glenn!
Have you noticed that the figures used in your pho...

She looks great matey. I love the blends of colours and materials.
Surely the pin up is an OH&S issue at the top of the that stairwell, though...
Oh, and is there going to be an Anthony Quinn-like figure on board?

Hi Glenn,

Excellent stuff, the weapons look great and the whole build is excellent. I'd agree about the search-light, maybe too heavy, but a smaller one on a pole/ stand would work equally well.

One day you're going to paint those figures and shock us all.

Outrstanding stuff as always.

Which make of boat is this one?

Good to see you building away.

Cheers

Thanks Alan, Brad.
Brad, The pin up is from PLAYFRAU, l.o.l.
No Anthony Quinn, I'm kinda partial to Erroll Flynn [ an Aussie by the way ] or Bogie.

My god! I see some paint in one of Glenn's dio's! Unbelievable!
I never thought to see that!

You did a great work here, plenty to look at and a very unusual subject.

Finest diorama work, as usual!

Claude, Scott, thanks guys.
The newest addition is for the added duty of bouy tender for channel and mine field marking. There is no photo refs or written refs on this. This is a figment of German field modification. All I know is, throwing a huge heavy concrete block, chain and barrel bouy over the side [ or retrieving one ] won't wear well on the ship so ....................
I still need to add the extension I beam off the deck rigging to raise the bouys and etc. from the future hold I'll be cutting into the deck.
When she's ubder way the platform folds up against the side of the ship. I also have to add a contraption for securing the platform arms when under way.
Thanks for looking - Glenn

Great work Glenn...simply amazing! Looking forward to watching this one, always nice to see how military equipment/weapons were integerated into "civilian" items, says a lot for "field modifications (well...sea modifications) and the ingenuity of crews to make due with what they had...

Keep at it, like it so far! Thanks for sharing your pics!

Cheyenne, Where do you come upwith these absolutly beautiful insane ideas? I've been working on a river barge that is supposed to be confiscated by the germans and decked out for patrol use for a few years now, driving a truck for a living doesn't lrave much time at the fantazy factory but one day it will get done. Your boats are a very good insentive to do so! Great job and beautifully executed. Look forward to seeing more.

Beautiful!

How do you come up with all that great diorama ideas? ...

One remark though. I am also not totally convinced with the 60cm Flak Scheinwerfer ... where do you put the generator? this is quite a large piece of hardware: Maschinensatz 85 Volt, 8 kW für 60 cm Flakscheinwerfer

cheers

Steffen
