Hey Scott, looking great. I really like how the water came out. What combination of colors did you use? Those fish look pretty good too although they seem a bit big. Then again I am not marine biologist #:-). I like the overall layout of your dio. The figures and their poses are really nice too. As a whole it tells a pretty good story.

Hi Slodder: Great Job!! I like the trees and groundwork, plus the civilian is awesome. I love the body language on both figures. The water is tinted resin?? You can barely see any layers in it, even in the x-sectional view. And the fish just top it all off.

Ola Scott

Now that`s outstanding dude. Woooow. The dio turned out really good. I like the submerged Jeep. No problems with the heat of the resin??? Also the fish add some real life to the water. The poses of the figures are superb too. It`s almost like you hear the soldier saying: "S#$% how do I tell this at HQ" and How do I get the bloody thing out. Foliage and groundworks are excellent

So to be short you have a winner in my eyes here

Thanks Guys. I appreciate the feedback. I appreciated all the feedback along the way.

Update notes:

  • The fish are kinda big on purpose. I recalled a Nature show where the fish pulled out of the river were so amazingly large it wasn't even funny! They are totally made up and aren't representative of any particular fish, kind of a wimzy design.
  • The idea of using Playmobile is a Great one - didn't think of that! Next time!
  • The water never did get a tint. I tried resin dyes and then I tried Ritt (fabric dye). I was never satisfied with the color I could mix so I opted for clear water. I think the underlying ground color helps a lot with the coloring. Overall I'm fairly pleased with the water.
  • The water is poured resin from Clear Castin'

    Very simple and straight forward
  • The Heat of the resin was a huge concern of mine - I did a lot of testing. I was concerned with the details - stick shifts, steering wheel etc. I used 10 drops of catalyst per 1 oz of resin and that seemed to work very well. The part that did fail all tests was the OOTB clear windscreen. I replaced it with Evergreen clear styrene. The stiffer Evergreen was able to take the resin MUCH better.
  • And yes how the h$%% do explain this one to the CO??????

Thanks again!!!!!

To all Splash participants, leaders, helpers, posters - THIS WAS A BLAST - Thank you!

Really nice work. I like the sense of humor this shows. A real FUBAR situation for the driver, though. #:-)

Well it's obivious to me that Rachel cannot swim. Great job, Scott. You seem to really have the water thing figured out.

FYI - Rachel is my sister. She's the one who gave the idea of going 'under' water. It's my tribute to her! If it were a B17 I'd have to put a picture of her on the nose #:-)

The water never did get a tint.

Interesting how the background and lighting made an illusion of the water having reddish tint.
