After finishing my first kit, the m5a1 stuart, I jumped right away on my next project an Academy stug IV, I plan on doing it 3 color camo. I think this paintjob will test my skills with the airbrush. The kit looks way easier to complete than the tamiya m5a1 and has much less pieces probably the reason why it is so cheap something around like 15 bucks, anyway here are pictures of what's in the box,
Are small clickable pictures the best idea of should I go full size?

Hey Mathieu,
The reason it's cheap is that Academy's StuG. IV is actually a cheap copy of the old Tamiya kit that came out about 33 years ago.
The Tamiya kit wasn't very accurate to start with as it was designed for motorization and the Academy kit's details are even worse.
The vinyl tracks should be replaced, Academy makes/made a set of individual tracks, #1357, for their "knock off" Pz.Kpfw. IV hulled kits.
It can be made into better representation of a StuG. IV with a little TLC and some after market parts or bits from the spares box.
The other option is to use it for painting practice and to get one of the slightly more accurate StuG. IV kits available from Italeri or DML
Cheers

I built and upgraded the same kit a while back too. I thought it was a fun project upgrading this old bootleg kit.
Here's a thread on my build, maybe you can pick up a few pointers...

Even this old bootleg will turn out pretty good with some care.
I love the StuGs. I actually got stuck in the commanders hatch of a StuG III out at Ft. Knox. . I am obviously a bit larger than the hatch. Amazingly, they asked me if I would volunteer to learn how to drive it for parades and such. Am I the only person that sees a potential problem here?

Hey PEK,
Thanks for including the link, I lost track of your build log when you first posted it !!
I noted that you've added a lot of late model StuG. IV features like the remote control MG shield and muffler stacks but you've also got zimmerit.
The zimmerit looks wonderful but I can't say that I've ever seen it on any photos of StuG. IV's with similar late production equipment.
Everything looks great but did you base your build on an actual vehicle?
Cheers

Good luck with the kit. That kit being such an oldie, I second the idea of keeping it as a fun project, without putting huge amounts of AM stuff on it.
With the originals being that large, I'd say the thumbnails you used are the best option. They load up quickly and don't mess up with how the forum displays.
Personally, I don't usually post images much larger than 800x600.
IMO, thumbnails are the way to go with huge pics.

Any StuG is a great subject and the price was right too. Can't wait to see more.

That's a pretty impressive conversion you've made here, a lot of metal parts as I read they you said you made them. My skills are pretty far from what you've done and also my references for accuracy are pretty limited to the internet also. Anyway I've started to build the thing here are some updates.

Thanx jjumbo!
I don't like to off topic too much in Mathieu's thread but my StuG is based on a vehicle from 17. SS Panzergrenadier Division, "Götz von Berlichingen" in France 1944.
