Friends,
Only one day separates us from the finishing line of the Splash Campaign.
A Campaign that was totally different from the Winter Campaign that ended some months ago. Many entered the Campaign, only few showed us some "update-pics". I regret this.... I hoped that the "learning from eachother aspect" came to life again like in campaign No.1. I missed that a bit, I'm afraid.
I fear a lot of us where quite busy with other things like work, school, family etc. This also includes me. I've been posting some updates, but my dio's progress was far from what I expected. Now, on the eve of the finishing line, it's time to wrap up things as far as the official Campaign is concerned.
Right now my dio is like the title of this post indicates "Tripple F rated".... as the Tripple F stand for "Far From Finished....." #:-) I only was able to do the bridge and some of the landscape. No water, No figures, No grass, no nothing I'm afraid..........
Though I feel it's far from finished, I still will enter the dio into the Campaign tomorrow. When the Campaign has ended, I'll pick it up again and will finish it from there. Without pressure I'll be able to share techniques I used and will be using in near future on this dio.
I wrote this post to persuade others to also enter their creation into this Campaign, finished or not.... It's not a matter of winning or losing, but it's a matter of learning from eachother. So please try to make some pics and submit those pics with a cost calculation and a possible story to the Campaign Tomorrow. Share your attempts with us and let's continue the building after the Campaign has finished.
C'mon, please join me, and submit whatever you started when you joined in. Let's all collect the Campaign Ribbon and wear it proudly as a team that is willing to share their thoughts, creations and techniques.
Danny

Howdy Eagle: Just for confirmation, do we still send our pics to KFMAGEE, even though he won't be around for a while?

I'm in the same boat on the splash contest, if you'll pardon the pun. Had three figures ready, all by Dragon, and when I put the civilain from the Viet Cong kit next to the GIs from the AirCav kit the scale was screwed. The lady from the Viet Cong kit looked like she was about 3 feet tall. If I think about it, I'll post a pic of the scale fiasco. By the time I realized the lady was out of scale it was too late to do anything to fix it...

Here, here - I agree Eagle. I do think lots of people have been a bit tight on time due to other things in life.
I commend you on entering what you do have done. Afterall it is about the doing and not the winning.
I have looked at these campaigns as challenges of my own skills and I have tried sooo many new things in each of them.
In Splash my new things are
I'm also looking at one article I'm going to share and potentially a second one (if I can get writing).
What did you guys try??

In Splash my new things are
- Deep water
- Submerging a model
- Oil paints - the civilians pants are oils
- Big time repositioning of limbs - all the arms have been redone.
- Serious conversion of figures - the civilian was a Testors North Africa figure
I'm also looking at one article I'm going to share and potentially a second one (if I can get writing).

One of the things I did a lot of was (Sorry 'bout that...) and moaning. Not really new for me, (ask my wife) but done never-the-less.

Check out the Junk drawer - Keith posted info there - here's a snippette from the thread

I do apologize that I will actually be gone at the time that our "SPLASH" Diorama Campaign will be closing (May 16th), but when I return on the 20th, I will begin sorting out the photos and links that you submit to me, and will prepare for the online judging poll. If nothing else, steal and extra few days to add that final touch to your work - or polish up your photographs for best effect.
If you have any questions about the actual contest, let me request that you defer to either Jim or perhaps FAUST, who has been such a big help on the entire campaign. I will try to log on from Mexico if I can get a good connection - otherswise, I'll log in around May20 or so!

Friends,
I contacted Jim about the submission part. I'm a volunteer to accept and publish the entries, since I feel this can be part of my "job" as the Diorama Editor.
Since I won't enter the voting part of the Campaign, I feel this won't be a problem. If someone is against this, then please feel free to react.
I'll wait for Jim to reply and from there I'll let you know to who to submit to.
Danny
NB : SLODDER; thanks for that Info. I have read it, but it totally slipped my (twisted and occupied) mind... Thanks mate. As always you're a big help in times of need !

Hey guys,
I am also behind the curve on my diorama. I am in charge of a Muscular Dystrophy Association fund raiser that will take place on Saturday. As a result, I am really pushed for time. I was hoping to fudge and send my photos in as required, knowing that Keith would not be back until the 20th. I can send what I have, but I am positive that I will be done by the 20th.
As you all probably don't know, my daughter has MD, so I have been working 110% on that for the last three months. No excuse, just an FYI.
Tell me what to do Eagle........

Ok - I know we all have busted hump to get where we are so I am not trying to step on any toes.
With that out of the way - Do you want to put an extention on the date for photo submission?
Chime in everyone.

Friends,
Since I'm not the Campaign Leader, I can't decide about this matter. What I do know, is that Keith won't be back until May 20, so voting will not start until that date.
I offered to assist on publishing the submissions and to gather / and/or publish the additional information, but I can't open te voting booth, since that's the privalege of the CL (Campaign Leader) and / or SO (Site Owner) .
I think it's wise to wait for Jim to respond before we come to conclusions.
Like you all, I don't want to step any toes, so patience is probably best practice here.
I'll get back to you on this !

Good Grief !!!
I never even realised today was the final day ! I thought the time was set for the end of this month. So my project is FFF as well.
As you can see, I have hardly posted around here for almost two months, and that is because I'm extremely busy both at work and at home.
But I'll try to make pics of the dio tonight, and if the deadline is postponed just a little ... (???), I'll be happy to hightlight how I paint and finish the water feature in the dio.
My suggestion would be to grant us till May 31 to finish this campaign... ?

I share your feelings, and can only agree with your observation, Danny.
Though I am extremely busy and have little time for modeling and for visiting Armorama at present (only a few posts in two months !) I can't find the same enthusiasm we had the first time.
I was wondering how this comes. Here's a few loose thoughts
- I think there are far too many campaigns in the pipeline at present. In ideal circumstances, I would like to see a maximum of six campaigns per year. Two months per campaign, and never more than one at the same time. The campaign idea at first was exciting and I loved every second of it. Today we have a huge list of campaigns, we'd like to participate to all and that doesn't leave us time to finish them properly.
I cannot think of any campaigns that are currently scheduled on Armorama that I would NOT like to join... ! So let's take a step back and try to limit this to a few well prepared projects.
- there's nothing wrong with the way things are going. I think this is a normal thing in a community that is structured as Armorama is. And let's give credit to those who deserve it : some people put in a lot of effort and time, and really make Armorama what it is. It is a wonderful place to visit if you have any modeling in your blood.
I'm sure these campaigns will find a correct balance, and will become one of the cornerstones of this site.
- maybe the campaign chapter needs to be looked into as well. The way it is structured today, goes above and beyond anything I even dreamed of when we started our first campaign here. But it still lacks one element that feels incredibly important to me. While posting on these (these) forum pages is easy to learn and it's easy to find an overview of things, I still miss this element in the campaign pages.
What I liked most about the first campaign is the fact we could easily monitor the advance of ALL projects that were in the pipeline. The "latest post" pages are excellent to do that.
To find an overview in the campaign pages is more difficult. I need to click the name of someone to see what he's cooking up. It misses the easy reply situation we have here. The pictures are not in the text, as they are here.
In other words, I still think the forum pages are a better tool to post progress. I think other people feel the same. The fact that there are both posts in this forum and in the campaign pages, split the effort and make it more fuzzy to find a bird's eye view. (I'm not an eagle )
I have to monitor the individual names in the campaign folder, check this forum, and I simply don't have the time to do that.
- I would suggest to either put a piece of forum in the campaigns folder or to make a separate campaigns forum, which ONLY deals with campaigns. Doing so would bring all posts related to campaigns together, and bring back the ambience of the first dio contest - only better. I don't know how this can be achieved technically, and maybe I'm dead wrong with this opinion. I'd be interested to read comments.
Maybe we can organize a chat session to discuss this topic ?
- A final word of thank you to Jim, for all the energy he put in this forum. He dedicates a large part of his life to Armorama. I'm happy to be able to share it.

Jan, I agree with everyting you said and I think having a separate forum just for campaign updates is a great idea. Perhaps Jim will consider adding it.

Slodder, I won't have anything finished by next Tuesday but if others need more time to finish up I think that would be a great idea. I think spring fever must have jumped on everyone, yard work, tornados, etc. With all the rain we have had I had so much water in my basement I was think of setting some figures on the floor and taking photos of some really realistic water...
At any rate, I thought I would chime in and say that I think an extension is fine...

Thanks Jan. I have a sump pump but there are some low spots in the floor where the water pools up. Maybe that is why the wife told me I could "have" the basement...

Couldnt agree more. I have found myself in three campaigns........ I had to pull out of this one and probably wont get the others finished in time either. I think you hit the nail on the head Jan, a thread with fotos and interaction kepth the campaign alive and spurred everybody on. Good post!

GF - Good points, all of them.
To me it's a bit of which came first the chicken of the egg? Is the response/posting down because of so many campaigns or because there are two places to post or because of outside 'stuff'?? Don't know??
I have made a habit of checking both forums and campaigns to see updates.
I absolutely love the Campaigns page with enlisting and rules etc. It well done. I don't have a preference as far as the future of the journal entries though? Forums are always there (I hope).
I would like to echo a GF quote
Thanks Jim - All your hard work does NOT go unnoticed.

I want to give the guys who did finish a big "atta boy". I do not want to use any excuse other than, "I did not finish". I do offer this thought, unlike the first campaign, there is no prize, so what would a couple of more days hurt? I can send what I have, but I will, without question, be finished by the 20th. I throw myself on the mercy of the group.

ok friends,
I "talked" with both Jim and Faust, and they both gave me a "go" for things as discussed in this post, but looking at al the reactions above, I decided to think things over again, and this is what I came up with.
We could start a discussion on whether or not to transfer the deadline, but that's up to one person...the Campaign Leader. Since Keith is not here at this moment, I'd say lets follow the rules and regulations as they where set before by Keith.
Since Keith won't be back until the 20th I'd say that every individual should decide on what to do for himself. Me ? I'm gonna use the last couple of days until may 20 to do some more work on my dio and I submit whatever is ready at may 19. Since I'm not gonna participate in the voting, I don't mind if I'm late or not. I just want to share my creative actions with the others.
Those who have finished their dio can submit this right now. Others who are not finished, could submit today and meet the deadline or, as I do myself, submit at may 19. You decide what's best.
Then there is the question on where to send the pics to. On this matter I'd say that we should also stick to the initial plan, so send the pics, cost calculation and/or pics to Keith. The pics won't be posted until may 20 at the earliest, and voting won't start before that either, so I feel there's little use of "the helping hand". The only thing I could do, is to collect entries and send them on to Keith. This only makes it more complex and creates a bigger chance for mistakes. My "helping hand" can't speed up things, nor can it take pressure off Keith....
Just my two cents..

Roger that.
First of all - thank you Danny, Jim and Faust. Thanks for your time and concern with all of this. I do appreciate it.
I personally will be submitting the photos I have now to Keith tonight. I will 'roll with' whatever happens and with whatever decisions are made as far as extentions.

Thank you guys for these great organising efforts !
There's no way for me to be finished in time... and I don't have a digicam so I won't be able to send pics for a long time !
Still, I'm going to finish that dio and make pics... simply it will be in a few days !
I've made efforts for this dio, and I realy don't want to stop here. I've learned new techniques and I'm very happy about it !
