Hi All,

Just wondering, I saw an article somewhere about special instructions about glueing the Gen 2 figures. Anyone aware of this article or know if there's anything special to glueing and keeping their lil body parts together?

Thanks in advance for your info

Hi John!

Not as I can recall.

Although one figure consist of much more parts than we are used to with injection molded figure kits. And there is usually some filling to do with most of the parts.

Details are very good, especially on the equipment. Some of the joints arent that great and be careful as some figures arent that good. I good thing is to check the photo on the back of the real figures rather than falling in love with the boxart.

Cheers

EasyOff,
They could be talking about using super glue for the photo etch parts like the weapon slings, shoulder epulates, and belt buckles.

Hi John,

What part of MA do you live? I am in Leominster.

I've built only two Gen 2 figures and I was displeased at some of the joints due to poor fit. Sanding and filing help, but I found something better. I use Pro Weld liquid glue almost exclusively now (except for PE and small parts). It helps to fill the gaps when pressing the parts together.

Hi John. Ive only finished two GenII figures so far (Tarawa marines) and I didn´t need any putty at all. But I did use Humbrol Poly and as Steve mentions above .... a dry-fit, ... quick swipe with a file when needed .... and then cement both sides so the plastic softens ... and when pushing the parts together .... the soft plastic completes the bond and fills any small gaps. Good luck with the build.

I'm working on Gen 2 figures as we speak (Winter Grenadiers). I use Tamiya Thin Cement for plactic parts and Zap-a-Gap CA glue for PE details. The fit is generally good and Dragon made some effor to make connection lines where some kind of line is in reality as well (cloth seam, belt, strap etc.) - so there is a tiny gap, but you possibly wanna keep it that way. it is however not always possible. For bigger part it helps to let the plastic melt a bit and then press it hard where it belongs - the rising seam of excess plastic is created and you can just clean in up. Nevertheless, you still will likely need to do some filling here and there - I use Mr. Surfacer 500 for that.

Ales,
I've never tried Mr Surfacer, I'll have to look into that. Thanks

Well, this is actually the first time I've tried Mr. Surfacer for this purpose as well per recommendation I’ve read somewhere (likely over at HF). It seems to work for me rather well. I found it a bit of a challenge to apply and sand putty (Squadron’s white) on figures in this scale without damaging details to much. What I like about Mr. Surfacer is the fact it’s could be cleaned with alcohol (I use 91% isopropyl alcohol from my local pharmacy) which doesn’t damage the plastic. So, I just leave it to dry a bit and then start gradually wiping off the excess with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol which also smoothes the surface nicely at the same time.

Hi Easyoff,
I don't know how accessable Vallejo is in your area, but Vallejo plastic putty straight from the bottle & wipe with a moist brush with water saved me a lot of work. use it only for small gaps though!

Thanks for the tip, Mark. Sounds easy, I have to give it a test drive...

No truer words spoken, Janne! A big gripe with me. Can't fault the weapons and equipment though
